New research shows the rise in mosquito- spread diseases throughout the hemisphere. Particularly known attacks are of West Nile viruses, as well as that of Malaria and these are global. There are records of Arboviral encephalitides attacks throughout the nation. A mosquito repellent thus play a crucial role in keeping these pests at bay.

Mosquito repellents are of different types. One can definitely customize them as per their requirement. In today’s age we often seem to go back to nature for remedies, against these pests not forgetting the wonderful contribution given by technology.

The EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) gives detailed guidelines against keeping these creatures at bay, however its not an easy task always. For a global traveler especially, this could be a fantastic add on. Lemongrass Oil, as well as Eucalyptus have proved to be powerful yet natural mosquito repellents. Aerated sprays do not help much in a closed house, as one can asphyxiate. The easiest add on’s for travel could be the oils or cream based repellents that can help a lot.

Mosquitoes can thrive and sustain almost anywhere, where stagnant water exists. Unfortunately for the global traveler these places are travel hot spots. Ever thought of draining away the swimming pool! That is one of the favorite places where mosquitoes could breed. All stagnant water resources need to be drained on a regular basis to keep these creatures at bay. While using repellents one may need to follow the instructions with open eyes. It would also be necessary to check the validity and authenticity before buying one. To find a good one, I would recommend looking through the EPA site or entering the name of supposedly best to get reviews on the same. So next time doing some travel-shopping, make sure to add this small but necessary add-on. Visit us for more information on mosquito control at www.PeskySkeeters.com.

The intermittent use of mosquito misting system decreases the population of mosquitoes to quite an extent. The advantages of the misting system, are that it repels mosquitoes very easily, and once installed, you need only to think of refilling it once a year.

The installation of the mosquito misting system is quite simple. First of all, you would be required to decide on the area you want to cover. It is important to decide on the boundary area, which is the perimeter of your backyard, and then look out for areas within the boundary area, for instance, pools, decks, other entertainment areas, etc. Draw a rough sketch of the areas you want to cover and present it to the technician. The technician would then guide you with the number of nozzles and other installation requirements. You can then go about installing the system on your own, thus saving a lot of money.

Also, choosing the right mosquito misting concentration is important since that would depend on personal requirements. There are low toxic organic based misting concentrations that do not leave any residue. They emit a light odor that can be neutralized using Odor pro.

The reservoir should be installed on a level ground. The reservoir would be heavy when filled. After installing the reservoir, ensure the nozzles have been installed 12 to 15 feet apart the boundary area and 10 feet around the areas within the boundary. Do not forget to test the system before loading it with misting concentrates. Check out for any leakages or if the valves are functioning properly. After testing the system, load the misting concentrates and water into the reservoir. Ensure that you have put on your safety gloves and goggles before loading the misting concentrates in the reservoir.

Also, one should bear in mind that installing a mosquito misting system is not the ultimate solution for mosquito control. You would still be required to keep check on the mosquito breeding grounds, for instance emptying stagnant water, containers, drain pools, keep gutters unclogged, etc. For more on mosquito prevention visit www.PeskySkeeters.com.

Mosquitoes lay eggs in standing or stagnant water. They develop in any puddle that last for more than four days. They lay around 250 eggs at a time, and hatch them in 7 to 10 days. Since standing water is a breeding ground for mosquitoes, it is imperative that it is eliminated. This will not only help reduce mosquitoes in the house, but also will save you from the trouble of using pesticides. To prevent mosquitoes from multiplying in your environment, ensure that there is no standing water around the house. Look out for items that store water, for instance, cans, plastic containers, flower pots, pet’s dishes, etc. Make sure that these are completely washed and dried after usage. Do not allow water to stagnate in any water holding container or even bird baths. Also, ensure that the water bodies around the house, such as the swimming pool are cleaned and chlorinated, or water fountains have fishes in them so that they can feed on mosquito larvae.

For controlling mosquitoes indoor, ensure that the doors and windows are closed tightly. You can also consider installing a fine windows mesh screens. Spend less time outdoors if there is a mosquito borne disease threat in your area. If you are required to spend more time outdoors, wear long pants and long sleeved shirts. The clothes worn outdoors should be light colored.

Also, you can consider applying a mosquito repellant. Select a mosquito repellent that has been approved and registered by environment protection agency. Also, check if there is any risk to human safety. Read the instructions on the label carefully before applying. Do not inhale these repellents and keep them away from eyes, lips or nostrils. The DEET (N, N-diethyl-m-toluamide) repellents can be safely used by children as young as two months. Pregnant women should refrain from using repellants. It’s advisable that you avoid using repellents on wounds. For more tips on mosquito prevention, check out www.PeskySkeeters.com.

Mosquitoes have become a nuisance to our surroundings. Their bite is enough to spread dreadful diseases such as malaria, dengue, chicken gunia, etc. Killing adult mosquitoes does not help in controlling the ever growing mosquito population, as much as killing the mosquito larvae. It is important to first target the mosquito breeding grounds. It is sometimes not possible to eliminate all water bodies that are present near to us. There are products like Bacillus thuringiensis, which can be used in stagnant water. These products not only effectively control mosquito larvae, but also can be safely used around areas where children and pets frequent. While outdoor during morning or evening hours, it is recommended that long sleeves and pants are worn to cover as much bare skin as possible to avoid mosquito bite, or else the DEET insect repellent can be used that can help prevent you from mosquito bites.

There are several remedies available for controlling mosquitoes outdoor. To name a few there are, space sprays, surface sprays, outdoor repellent, mosquito dunks, mosquito bits, fogging, chemical free mosquito repellents, etc. The fogging method is considered the best method for controlling mosquitoes outdoor. There are two types of foggers — the thermal fogger and the cold fogger. The thermal fogger, on heating, emanates a pesticide smoke or fog that helps in killing mosquitoes around the area, thus helping you keep unwanted mosquitoes at bay. The cold foggers do not require burning in order to create a smoke or a fog. They are much cleaner and can be safely used indoors as well.

The mosquito dunk is another mosquito control product that can be used along with other mosquito repellents. The mosquito dunk is non toxic and is very efficient. These can be placed in any mosquito breeding grounds. Even though the process of elimination of the mosquito is slow, it does provide a long term result.

Not everyone can tolerate the types of toxic chemicals that are used to ward off mosquitoes. Some people are allergic to over-the-counter repellents and these products contain so many chemicals that they certain aren’t recommended for pregnant women! So what is a person to do to ward off these obnoxious, infectious winged creatures the next time damp, hot weather sets in?

If you don’t want to stay inside all summer you might want to consider planting a mosquito repellent garden. Herbs that are known for disgusting the tiny whizzing vampires are citronella, rosemary, lemongrass, lavender, basil, thyme, penny royal and garlic. Planting a selection of these herbs might help keep mosquitoes at bay as well as keep it smelling like the Garden of Eden!

There are also a few flowers and trees that also quality as mosquito repellent plants. These include pine and cedar trees and geraniums, daisies and chrysanthemums. In fact a very powerful commercial insecticide called pyrethrum is made from a member of the daisy family called Chrysanthemum cineranifolium. pyrethroid. It does not repel insects but works as a contact insecticide, causing nervous system toxicity that leads to the death of the insect. The chemical is effective against mosquitoes, flies and ticks and just one spray can down them in mid-flight. You can find this type of mosquito repellent in health food stores and plant supply stores.

There are also several essential oils that are made from the above plants, which could be mixes with carrier oil such as almond and jojoba and rubbed into the skin to ward off mosquitoes. Essential oils from plants that are natural mosquito repellents include citronella, rosemary, lavender, lemongrass, basil, thyme, allspice, verbena, pine cedar, cajeput, geranium, cinnamon and clove. You can also sometimes find natural mosquito repellent formulas made of combinations of these oils in your health food store.

Of all of these plants citronella is the strongest and most effective deterrent to mosquitoes. The active ingredient most commonly found in “natural” or “herbal” insect repellents marketed in the United States. It is registered with the EPA as an insect repellent.

Citronella oil has a lemony scent and was originally extracted from the grass plant Cymbopogon nardus. You can buy citronella in many ways – as an ointment, cream, lotion, in candles or as a coil that can burned like incense to keep the mosquitoes out of the air.

A study done by the American College of Physicians showed that persons who lit citronella candles had 42% fewer bites than controls, which had no protection. The manufacturer of Natrapel (a herbal mosquito repellent made in Littleton, New Hampshire) has laboratory data showing that their 10% lotion reduced mosquito bites by 84% during a 4-minute test period. This fell a bit short of subjects who were using DEET in the same test whose biting was reduced by 96%. Still one or two mosquito bites more might be worth the lack of exposure to carcinogenic ingredients in the long run. For more information on how to prevent mosquito bites this season check out www.PeskySkeeters.com.
