Building a Home Bar – What You Need To Know
Building a home bar needs space, imagination, budget and lots of patience. If you are a person who loves to host the parties, having a home bar is a good idea. You can either go for the custom home bars or you can build the home bar of your choice from the scratch. You need enough space where you can accommodate the spacious bar and few people. There are various areas that you need to take care while building a home bar.
The firs step is to create a frame. You can use the stand stud lumber and framing nails. Before you make a frame, you need a complete layout including the placement of cooler and the sink. You also need to consider the size of these two. Next step is to take care of the plumbing. You need hot and cold water for the bar sink and fish tank, if you opt for it. You also need a drainage for the bar sink.
After this, the next thing that needs to be taken care of is the lighting. You need to fix the electrical wirings for wall switches, outlets, audio, phone, computer and video. You need to decide how many lights you need. Basically, you need the light in the room, over the bar, under the bar, back bar and the dart board. If your bar is going to be in the basement, you also need the lights in the stairs.
The most important aspect of the bar is the bar top. Choosing the bar top depends on your budget and personal liking. The good idea is to create it in layers. Finish all the coats of the wood with minwax. You need to make the storage cabinet under the bar counter top. This place is used to prepare the drinks and storing the ingredients and tools.
Back bar is mainly the area where all the liquor bottles are put on display. It is a common practice to put the cheaper products down low and more expensive ones, higher up, where everyone can see it easily. You need to adjust the depths of the shelves as per the bottle size.
