Model trains have no shortage of brand names. You have the Lionels, MTHs, Bachmanns, and many more. But have you heard about the K-Line? Some might not have heard of this brand name other than its now current association with Lionel, but in its heyday, K-Line was one of the sought after brands of model trains due to its great designs at a very affordable cost.

K-Line was first owned by MDK, a small company founded in 1975 to market Lionel models. The brand K-Line was used for their tracks compatible for Lionel and American Flyer but not any original models or locomotives. However, when a toy company name Louis Marx and Company died in 1978, K-Line got its shot at the big time. MDK secured the tools and devices, including the molds, of the Marx model trains and accessories. Some of these were even scavenged from dilapidated and disused Marx factories. This gave MDK and K-Line the ability to build its own model trains.

They started with O27 scale trains. These were just copies of the original Marx designs but modified to run with and on Lionel products. However, they were cheap and this put K-Line on the market. They became so successful, K-line started to expand. This drew the ire of Lionel, who were they were in business with just a short 3 years back. They made their trains capable of not only running on the Lionel tracks but also capable of coupling with the Lionel trains, making their cheaper models attractive to even Lionel model owners. Many Lionel owners loved the cheaper K-Line cars that could go along with their locomotives.

With its success, K-Line started to expand into larger markets. They entered into the S scale models, with their own trains and tracks, and into the O scale which was the market dominated by Lionel. They even started to abandon their cheap and affordable philosophy and made O scale trains to compete with the high quality Lionel O scale trains.

This war that K-Line entered with Lionel would prove to be disastrous for K-line in the end. Lionel and K-Line fought fiercely but in the end, Lionel edged out K-Line in court and the latter eventually filed for bankruptcy. Afterwards, Lionel bought K-Line and now it exists as K-Line by Lionel.

Many of the original K-Line trains and models were cancelled because Lionel already produced equivalent models. This made these models, like the S scale K-Lines, become collector’s items. Even though the current K-Line is only limited in production, the originals have earned a place in the hearts of many hobbyists. Since they were copies of Marx Company models, another model line regarded as highly collectible, original K-Lines are also sought after as a source of spare parts for Marx Company models.

Some of their classic designs are already becoming collector favorites. Some of the more high quality model cars that were coupled with the Lionel engines are growing in popularity, despite being out of production.

Even with its decline, the K-Line legacy continues. They started as a cheaper alternative to established model railroad companies but now have become a part of the history of model railways. The continuing demand for original K-Lines may give this brand a new future.

It is important that we test the boat ignition switch so that we can avoid any trouble ahead. It is part of safety measures among sailors. Also ignition switch is very important to a boat because it is its driving force to get started so it is more conventional that beforehand you can test the integrity of your boat’s ignition switch. In addition, testing this device is easy and you don’t need to call any technician to work it for you but you can do it yourself.

Step 1 – BEFORE THE TEST

See to it that you have read the manual of your boat particularly in boat ignition switch because it may differ from one boat to another. Then check your boat engine for any leaks; it may cause explosion when you try to start using the switch. And check the wirings of the boat especially the one connected to the switch, you may not know, it may cause a short circuit problems. Also it is very important that you check the condition of your battery before the test because oftentimes problem occurred mostly in the batteries. You can start at the battery and follow the wires that lead to the engine, and you can check the connection and checking the starter solenoid which connects your battery from the switch.

step 2 – ON THE TEST

Now you are ready to make things spark. Slightly turn the key using the boat’s ignition switch to start the engine but listen carefully if there is any unusual sound and if there is, then stop the test, you may have an engine problem. Finally, if you are successful in switching on the engine, let the engine have a successive long revolution to heat your engine, and then switch off the engine and wait for a couple of minutes then do step 2 again until you are satisfied in testing your ignition switch.

To start cycling, you need a bike and the ability to ride it. After those essentials, all levels of detail and finesse can be added, starting with the type and quality of the bicycle, the range of items which might adorn the bicycle, and the level and extent of your cycling skills and interest. A vast array of books have discussed virtually every aspect of bicycles and cycling, and this article does not intend to duplicate those efforts. A few points to get you out on your way to the roads and trails of your local region will be highlighted, but the emphasis is on sources of more information. Books are one source of information, and several are recommended. Check in your local libraries and bookstores for other titles. Cycling magazines are an excellent source of current information on every cycling topic. Search out other cyclists through bicycle shops or organizations for ‘hands on’ and local information. Most of all, ride, experiment, and gain experience and enjoyment.

Buying a bicycle in your local municipality is not much different from buying a bicycle elsewhere. A successful bike purchase depends on finding the type of bicycle that suits you, and an individual bicycle that fits you. Scan the route descriptions in cycling books to get a feel for the type of riding that appeals to you. Then throw in your biases, dreams, and budget to decide which bike is best for you. Any bike is enjoyable on paved roads. Sturdy touring road bikes or mountain bikes can handle the routes on gravel roads. The same applies for the back roads. Mountain bikes are recommended for most off road riding, and especially for those routes on trails. BMX bikes could be ridden on some ofthe shorter rides. Most larger towns have a sporting goods or department store offering some choice of road bikes, mountain bikes or BMX bikes. Prefer the sporting goods or specialty shop to the department store: staff are often more knowledgeable, and better repair and maintenance services are offered.

Maintaining your bike prolongs its life: simple things such as keeping tires inflated and the chain lubricated reduce pedaling resistance. Knowing how to change a flat tire, realign your chain, and make minor adjustments can also improve your cycling enjoyment On even a short bop to a local park or a spin around the neigbourhood, carry a spare inner tube, tire irons, a pump, and a few AlIen keys which fit your seat post and handlebars. As you begin longer rides, or venturing on long or remote mountain bike explorations, your repertoire of repairs and tools should also increase (or cycle with someone more experienced than you!).

If mechanical aspects are not your forte, take your bike into specialty shops for repairs or maintenance. Talk to the shop owner on a slow day, when he or she has time to show you a few basic tips. Shops or cycling organizations sometimes offer courses on repairs, as may community recreation departments.

The main cycling event is the Tour de France. Visit GuidedTourParis.com for more information about Paris and the Tour de France.

Fly fishing has always been one of my passions and I enjoy writing about it every day. I hope that I can help you foster a love for the sport here at WorldVillage.com and at my site FlyFishingGod.com . If you are just picking up fly fishing you have probably come across a scenario like this:

You arrive at a great looking spot and start tying on a good looking fly. After a few casts you start to see a hatch emerging. You then inspect the insect attempting to discover what imitation you might have in your trusty fly box. Trout are rising all around you now as you dig through your flies only to find that you do not have what is needed. You take something out that looks similar, tie it on and start casting. After several trout rise to your offering but refuse it you hook a mediocre sized fish. You continue to cast for about another hour moving up and downstream but to no avail. After a long morning of frustration you leave angry, determined to return next time with the proper equipment for the job at hand.

Now let’s look at the same situation but with proper planning for the hatch. You arrive to your spot about an hour before you expect your hatch to start. You observe the beginning of the hatch and pick out a perfect size 12 pale evening dun to offer the hungry masses. You start casting your dun early in the hatch and hook a few good fish. You then exercise your patience and allow the hatch to get into full swing. After moving up and down the river casting at rising brown trout you have released 20-25 fish and experienced the full fervor being adequately prepared for the hatch has can offer.

Preparing to meet and fish the hatch is the goal, if you are prepared you will catch fish. That’s the bottom line. Keep an eye on my articles here and at FlyFishingGod.com to prepare yourself for incredible fly fishing journeys.

It is very important that you take good care of your bike. If you want that your bike should last a lifetime, you need to clean it from time to time. The question which arises in each and everyone’s mind is how to clean your bicycle? Well, let’s try and find the answer.

There are numerous ways to keep your bike clean and it is no rocket science in learning on how to do so. Now, cleaning a bike primarily depends on its usage. If you ride your bike on a muddy terrain or a dirty track, you might need to clean it on a regular basis. On the other hand, if you use it on a neat and clean terrain, a monthly cleaning can be quite sufficient.

While cleaning a bike, you need to get a stand, a few dry clothes and a multipurpose organic rust remover. The rust remover works wonders on your metal frame and wipes it clean of any stain. Likewise, you can also use a car shampoo-even simple water to do the needful. Just wash the bike thoroughly and then clean it with a piece of clean cloth.

You may try to clean your bike with a soft cloth and apply a coat of fine wax on it. Use a wax which is meant for cycles and try to go in for a good quality. At the end of the cleaning process, it is a good practice to use some grease and other lubricants. At the same time, kindly remember, that an awful lot of grease is not at all healthy for your bike- excessive grease is known to attract dust and grime. So use lubricants within the prescribed limits and avoid excessive usage at all costs. Rest assured, if you follow these simple steps, your bike would continue to shine like new.

New research shows the rise in mosquito- spread diseases throughout the hemisphere. Particularly known attacks are of West Nile viruses, as well as that of Malaria and these are global. There are records of Arboviral encephalitides attacks throughout the nation. A mosquito repellent thus play a crucial role in keeping these pests at bay.

Mosquito repellents are of different types. One can definitely customize them as per their requirement. In today’s age we often seem to go back to nature for remedies, against these pests not forgetting the wonderful contribution given by technology.

The EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) gives detailed guidelines against keeping these creatures at bay, however its not an easy task always. For a global traveler especially, this could be a fantastic add on. Lemongrass Oil, as well as Eucalyptus have proved to be powerful yet natural mosquito repellents. Aerated sprays do not help much in a closed house, as one can asphyxiate. The easiest add on’s for travel could be the oils or cream based repellents that can help a lot.

Mosquitoes can thrive and sustain almost anywhere, where stagnant water exists. Unfortunately for the global traveler these places are travel hot spots. Ever thought of draining away the swimming pool! That is one of the favorite places where mosquitoes could breed. All stagnant water resources need to be drained on a regular basis to keep these creatures at bay. While using repellents one may need to follow the instructions with open eyes. It would also be necessary to check the validity and authenticity before buying one. To find a good one, I would recommend looking through the EPA site or entering the name of supposedly best to get reviews on the same. So next time doing some travel-shopping, make sure to add this small but necessary add-on. Visit us for more information on mosquito control at www.PeskySkeeters.com.

For the first time researchers were able to see the sky in detail and the reflecting telescope revealed quite a few mysteries to the wonder-struck scientists.

The first telescopes were innovated by Galileo, and were made up of lenses placed strategically in a tube. The major drawback of the time was Niccolo’s inability to get the proper shape for the concave mirror and a process for seeing the picture without blocking the main mirror! As a result Zucchi’s design did not meet with a lot of interest even though it was extremely feasible. In 1663 James Gregory who wrote the Optica Promota innovated an extremely sensible design of the same reflecting telescope using Niccolo’s basis to go one step further. He used two concave mirrors but still building the telescope proved to be really difficult. 10 years scientist Robert Hooke was the only scientist able to make a working design but it wasn’t really popular.

Newton was the first to notice that when light was passing through lenses of differing thicknesses, the light beam bent and different colors bent according to different amounts. This property of bending light was called as refraction. But unfortunately after the beam of white light was bent back to its original destination, the picture achieved was surrounded a soft spectrum or nimbus of colors which was not supposed to be there. This defect was called as the chromatic aberration, was one of the major errors of telescopes found during Newton’s time. Sir Isaac Newton added the smaller “oblique” mirror placed near the primary mirror to get the best image for viewing the 90° angle and the reflecting telescope was born.
