Celebrity Home Choices: Eddie Murphy, Oprah …

By on June 6, 2008

Purchasing large and daunting real estate seems to be a sign of accomplishment for a celebrity. The bigger the square footage, the more clout established within a community of people who have little or no worries when it comes to shopping for that next house.

Eddie Murphy owns a $20 million dollar home in Beverly Hills, California. Oprah Winphrey owns a $55 million home in Montencito, California. When J. Lo and Mark Anthony decided to marry, they purchased a home that takes up an entire block. It seems that whether the price tag or the square footage is the topic, bigger is always better for celebrities.

In all honesty, celebrity real estate choices are commonly chosen by those who were once celebrities but now reside outside of the celebrity circle. Maria Shriver and Governor Arnold Swartzenegger live in an $11.9 million mansion in Brentwood, California. The home is created in the style of an old college and is sure to keep the Governor safe and sound thanks to an immense security presence.

For the most elite of celebrities, huge homes and huge price tags are not enough. For old school rocker Billy Joel, being at the top mean owning not only a huge $35 million dollar home, but situating the home on a private island. He may just be neighbors with celebrity superstar Johnny Depp, who also owns his own private isle.

Celebrities have the money, power and respect to step into any room and leave the crowd breathless. When it comes to real estate, celebrities can buy all the square footage they want, hire any architect that pleases them and even choose to build their home on an island public only to them and their own. Bigger is always better when you are a celebrity and real estate is certainly part of that cliche.
