Composting Of Biodegradable Waste

By on July 21, 2008

Composting, according to the “Zero Waste Technology Handbook” by Luz E. Sabas, is “biological degradation under controlled conditions; the process of making biodegradable (items) such as food, garden, animal and human waste into compost by mixing them with soil, water, biological additives/activators (optional), and air.”

To compost, cover biodegradable waste with soil. Expose to some sunlight and air. Moisten with water. The action of these elements together, plus that of bacteria and other microbes that are sure to set into the mixture, will soon turn all the biowaste into enhanced soil or compost.

Keep it safe from strong rains. To hasten composting, mix in some natural additives or activators. This will also ensure that the mixture is odor-free.
