Many 6-week programs promise great results, including weight loss and muscle gain. Follow my progress in a 6-week diet and fitness regimen featured online for free at allure.com.

Day 1 of 42 (Yikes!) 6-week diet and fitness regimen

The word diet automatically makes me very hungry. The day before I decided to start this diet I was eating the whole day. Ice cream, apple pie, candy, you name it, I needed it.

So, as I start out with the 6-week program I am going to think of it as “watching what I eat” and “exercising regularly” regimen, instead of using the diet word.

Summary of Day 1: I started out the day very good, with my usual 2 cups of coffee. Since it is important to record what you eat and how many calories you have consumed, I quickly realized that the creamer I love to put in my coffee was significantly contributing to my daily calorie intake. I always thought coffee was a ‘free’ item, sort of like water.

It seemed like I was eating all day, but when I add everything up, the total calories I took in were not very much–around 1300. Every 2-3 hours I was eating something and I always had a glass of water nearby to sip on all day.

The exercise part didn’t happen yesterday, although I did power walk 3 miles the day before I started the program (mostly out of guilt for eating so much ice cream and apple pie).

The exercise options offered at Allure.com include the stationary bike, treadmill, elliptical trainer–all for periods of 30-45 minutes with alternating speeds/elevations. For strength training, they recommend the forearm plank, squats, plie squats and dumbbell chest presses. I will definitely be adding these to my daily exercise.

One exercise option I may put into practice is to do 10 push-ups every time you go into the kitchen!
