Dealing with Ectopic Pregnancy
What is an ectopic pregnancy? An ectopic pregnancy takes place when the fertilized egg instead of being implanted inside the uterus gets implanted in a different location like the ovaries, the fallopian tube, the abdominal cavity or any where else. Ectopic means out of its normal place. The egg can lay down its roots and start growing in the fallopian tubes of about 95% of ectopic pregnancies. As a result much of the ectopic pregnancies are referred to as “tubal pregnancies.” It is also possible for the egg to get implanted inside the ovary, cervix, abdomen, or else where, as a result these are called as cervical or abdominal pregnancies.
The main reason why these pregnancies are so dangerous is the serious lack of space or healthy tissue for the growing fetus to survive. These organs are also not capable of enlarging in size like the uterus to house the growing fetus. As the fetus increases in size the ectopic pregnancy will eventually burst the organ it was being housed in resulting in internal bleeding. This will endanger the woman’s life and result in death if no corrected. Very few classical ectopic pregnancies grow to full term and survive.
Ectopic pregnancy is difficult to diagnose as the symptoms of a n ectopic pregnancy is as similar as that of a normal pregnancy and common symptoms are vomiting or morning sickness, nausea, breast tenderness, and frequent urination. The best signal of a ectopic pregnancy is vaginal bleeding. There might be cramping pains in your pelvis, lower back abdomen, even radiating upward to your shoulder. A few of the following symptoms can also suggest ectopic pregnancy so be careful of vaginal spotting and vaginal bleeding, sudden loss of blood with vaginal bleeding and dizziness and low blood pressure along with lower back pain.
