Digital Camera Binoculars – Amazing Optical Systems
“Oh, you should have seen it…” These words often begin a story meant to captivate friends and family. But more often than not, the tale does not portray the image clearly. Everyone has also heard the saying, “a picture is worth a thousand words.” This explains why birdwatchers and other outdoor enthusiasts will often carry a camera in addition to binoculars and binocular spotting equipment. But with digital binoculars, this is no longer necessary. By combining a digital camera with a pair of binoculars, one can capture views with the push of a button. Now, instead of trying to explain your latest find, you can show the pictures instead.
With so many different types of digital binoculars available, how can you find a set to meet your needs? Consider the following: if clear, not pixilated images are important to you, then choose a model with a high megapixel count. Lower resolution models, usually with less than one megapixel, capture images that are on par with the first generation of digital cameras and camera phones. Recording live action? Then choose a model with video capture capability. While in video mode, many versions are capable of processing up to 30 seconds of video, prior to activating the camera. This practically eliminates the “missed shot” as the camera records the stored information. Additionally, the ideal digital binoculars should be light weight, have expandable memory, a long battery life, and provide easy connectivity to one’s PC (for saving or editing pictures and / or video).
Towards the high end products, manufacturers have built the camera into the binocular optical components. This ensures what you see is what you will get a picture of. This also allows the camera to focus at much closer objects than other non-collimated models. Most models provide an LCD screen for you to preview the image before saving it. This becomes useful in video mode, where the binoculars are basically transformed into a video camera. Otherwise, in camera mode, the preview screen ensures that your images are clear and focused, and worthy of saving. There’s nothing worse than taking a picture that you can’t even identify!
There are better digital camera binoculars being produced and invented daily. And of course, digital binoculars, because they are made from two different technologies, may not measure up to the binoculars and digital cameras sold as separate devices. There will always be better binoculars and better digital cameras because size is not an issue for them. But you will not be disappointed by the digital camera binoculars on the market today. It’s just a matter of look, press and save.
