Ultimate Language Tutor
Test your knowledge of Spanish, French, German, and Italian vocabulary, verb conjugations, and phrases. You can choose multiple-choice or fill-in-the-blank questions. (Beware. The fill-in-the-blank questions are looking for a specific answer. Don't translate "le livre" as "the book" because the program only accepts "book.") If you score well on your quiz, your name will go on the top ten list. (WIN)
Fertig
Play a board game and improve your German skills. You don't have much time to navigate the board and answer multiple choice questions. The more questions you answer correctly, the better your score. When your time is up, see how your score compares with others who have played. (DOS)
Travel Tutor
Traveling abroad this year? You might want to try this one, because it offers language review in 48 (not a typo!) different languages. You can opt to see a list of available vocabulary, read a guide to pronunciation or take a quiz. The quiz has four options: multiple choice, true/false, written, or matching. (DOS)
European 9 Language Learner
Are you studying Czech, Danish, Dutch, Finnish, Hungarian, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese or Swedish? Perhaps you would like to learn a few phrases. This program will quiz you with either a multiple-choice or a fill-in-the-blank test. You can review missed vocabulary when you complete the quiz. (DOS)
Russian Tutor
Learning Russian is made a little easier with this program. Included are four (out of seven available) lessons, ranging from simple sentences to Russian names. When you click on the words and phrases, you will hear them pronounced for you in Russian. One lesson goes into detail on the differences between English and Russian pronunciation. (WIN)
Win SignMaster
American Sign Language won't necessarily help you if you are traveling to foreign countries, but it is a good language to learn. This freeware program will teach you the ASL alphabet, and test you to see how well you learned it. (WIN)
Thai Tutor
You might not be interested in learning Thai, but this is a well-written program with a sense of humor. All of the basic vocabulary words are pronounced by a native Thai speaker. There is an explanation of Thai pronunciation and a little about native customs. If you want more information, there is a suggested reading list as well. (Win)
Write Chinese
Learn the beautiful art of writing Chinese characters with Write Chinese. This program will teach you the brushstrokes and in what order the strokes must be drawn. Then try to draw the character using your mouse, and the program will evaluate the accuracy of your brushstroke. (DOS)
New Words Dictionary
This program is nothing to look at when you first see it--in fact, you might be confused by it. But it's a very useful aid for studying foreign languages. Type in a list of words that you need to learn, along with their translations. Then use New Words as a flash card system to test yourself.(WIN)
Italian Teacher #1 v2.3

Italian Teacher will help you learn vocabulary words and phrases that will help you prepare to travel in Italy. After testing yourself, view the list of missed answers so you'll know what to study. Ciao!(DOS)
