Getting A Massage – Some Questions Answered
Massages can be one of the best things you can do for your body and psychological well-being. They not only loosen up your muscles, but good massages will also relax you and relieve much of the stress you may be going through. Only a small percentage of people have taken advantage of the positive effects that a massage can offer, but others have not tried the experience for a variety of reasons. I would like to address some of the concerns that you might have if you’ve never experienced a massage …
What are the different types of massages to choose from?
There are a wide array of massages and techniques that you can choose from. Some of them have specific uses, while other types of massages are used to simply relax the body. The Swedish massage is the most common type that people think of when they hear the word “massage.” With this type, the client disrobes and covers their midsection with a towel. The masseuse uses oils and several techniques to help muscles to loosen and relieve stress. With an Oriental massage, on the other hand, the client typically stays fully clothed and acupuncture is often used in the procedure. The masseuse works on major pressure points in order to bring the body into complete balance. You can also choose between a myofacial release massage, a postural massage, or many others.
Are the massage oils that they use good for my skin?
Most of the massage oils that a licensed massage therapist uses are hypoallergenic. This means that they generally cause no allergic reactions to the body because they have no allergens in the ingredients. If you have any known reactions to a certain lotion or oil, it would be a great idea to inform your massage therapist before beginning the massage. They may be able to provide an alternative oil or lotion or, if needed, forego the use of it altogether in your case. Having a reaction to a massage oil or lotion will only hinder your enjoyment of the experience that would just be a waste of your time and money.
Should a massage be painful?
That depends. Some people describe a feeling that is more like a “good pain.” This normally involves the feeling you get when a sore muscle is stretched or massaged until it becomes loose. On the other hand, some people have described a pain that causes them to not enjoy their massage experience. This is not the ideal environment and you should let your masseuse know immediately. Your pain could be caused for a variety of reasons and your massage therapist may be able to suggest remedies or they may have a remedy themselves. Either way, the pain might prove to be effective but it certainly hinders your ability to enjoy the massage experience.
What is couples massage?
Couples massage is an ideal way to spend some relaxing time with your significant other. This occurs when you and your mate go to a massage clinic and you are both in the same room getting a massage together. This can be a thrilling experience for both you and your mate as your get your muscles loosened and your pressure points are being worked on together. Generally, you also get your face and your entire body massaged in the process. You can usually get a package for around $300 and this is a great gift idea for an anniversary or some other special event that you and your mate celebrate.
How do I get a career in massage therapy?
Massage therapy is a flourishing field for many college-aged people and even older. Most areas have several schools that offer massage therapy certification classes to help you become a professional masseuse. Before you can receive certification, though, most courses require you to have a certain number of massaging hours as part of your training. Your family and friends will love this part because they are often the target for students wishing to become professional massage therapists. In some areas, you might also need to take some basic anatomy classes to learn more about the body and the pressure points in it.
