Go Cart Engines

The engines for go carts are the building block of the actual go carts. After all, if you do not have quality engines the entire project will be a failure. You can use your feet to power a go cart but it’s not nearly as much fun as having carts with engines. Here are some handy tips for go cart engines.

First, toss out the idea of using a lawn mower engine for your go carts. While lawn mower engines can be adapted, they are not the best type of engine to use. Go carts need engines that have a horizontal shaft to maneuver in all directions. The majority of lawn mower engines are vertical shafts in order to operate the blades. A vertical shaft engine will not work well in go carts at all.

Another problem with lawn mower engines is that they cannot withstand the ruggedness that go carts go through on a continual basis. Many lawn mower engines have aluminum parts that are easily damaged when used in go carts. Additionally, the customization and rebuilding of the lawn mower engines is extremely complicated and you’re not certain of success when it is complete.

Go cart engines ideally need to be five to ten horse power motors. If you do not want to purchase a horizontal shaft go cart engine motor already built you can use a motor from a tiller. Tiller motors are the right requirements and designed for abuse and ruggedness. If you don’t want to build your go cart engines there are pre-made engines that you can purchase.
