Home Age Spot Treatments

It’s important to remember that a home remedy to fade age spots may not work as well for you as it does for someone else. Also, unlike a medical procedure, you have no guarantee of effectiveness or safety. That means it’s important to take precautions when you use an age spot treatment you’re not familiar with. However, if you stick to age spot treatments that use harmless ingredients, the worst thing that will happen is no effect at all. That’s why many age spot sufferers try this type of age spots treatment before seeking professional medical help.

If your age spots are harmless, and merely annoying to look at, it’s a smart idea to try a non damaging, inexpensive method of getting rid of them. Remember that other conditions can look a lot like age spots, so if yours appear to be unusual, see a doctor immediately. This is particularly important if the spot has an uneven texture or color. Strange characteristics could be the first sign of a cancerous condition.

One age spot treatment you can try at home is improving the health of your skin. Vitamins A, C, D, and E are great for your skin, as are zinc and selenium. If you have healthier skin, you’ll be less likely to suffer UV radiation damage and the production of extra melanin. Deposits of melanin, triggered by exposure to the sun, are the reason these spots develop. This treatment doesn’t usually fade spots that are already present, but they’ll help keep you from getting new ones.

Mild bleaching agents, like lemon juice, apple cider vinegar, and similar materials can gently remove the upper layers of the skin. They may help fade spots to some degree if applied directly to the blemishes. Use of aloe vera gel or juice can help make your skin healthier and reduce the appearance of age spots, too. Apply it about twice a day and see what kind of results you get.

Buttermilk is a popular home remedy for age spots that’s been used for centuries. It’s also traditional to apply buttermilk to freckles and other heavily pigmented areas. The lactic acid in butter milk may assist in bleaching unwanted pigmentation, and milkfat is an excellent way to keep your skin moist and feeling young. Use it as a skin cleanser, or as part of other beauty preparations and age spot treatments.

Anti-oxidants can help make your skin healthier, too, and may slow down the process of aging. Consider consuming four to eight ounces daily of fresh bilberries, a good source of anti-oxidants. Alternatively, take eighty to a hundred and sixty milligrams of the extract of these berries, or twenty to forty milligrams of the active ingredient in them – anthocyanosides – every day.
