How Antique Wood Flooring Can Make Your Home Seem New

With more people spending their free time relaxing at home or having friends over, as opposed to going out socializing, there’s never been a more popular time for renovating your home as there is now. One of the ways this has really taken off over the past few years is having wood flooring installed, and in particular antique wood flooring.

One of the main reasons for this is the sheer beauty that antique wood flooring can offer any room. Instead of the normal, everyday hardwood floors, there’s something particularly special about a floor made out of antique wood – whether it’s the feel or the look, or both, it just has that magical effect that other wood floors can’t replicate.

Why An Antique Wood Floor Makes All The Difference

As well as it being a hardwood floor, which just seems to add a touch of class to any home when done properly, if the wood is antique it will also add value to your property, sometimes quite a bit depending on how old the wood is, or how well it’s been renovated to its original state, or as close to it as possible.

Homebuyers today are tired off the stale and lifeless carpeted rooms, or faux wood floor coverings, and are looking for something different. This is why homes that have proper wood flooring are becoming highly sought after by buyers, who’d rather pay the extra on the asking price rather than face the extra work involved themselves.

Antique Flooring In Your Home

The good news is that you may even already have an antique floor without knowing it. If you live in an old farmhouse or a Victorian or Tudor-style property, take a look underneath your carpets if you haven’t already done so – chances are that the floor you walk on every day is antique. Even if it’s not in the greatest condition, you can still renovate it back to its former glory.

Of course, if you’ve moved into a newer property, then the flooring isn’t going to be that old. However, that’s not to say you can’t have an antique wood floor installed – there are many companies that offer this service. It’s just that it’ll possibly turn out more expensive than if the floor is already there.

How Expensive Is Antique Flooring?

Depending on whether your home already has an antique floor or not will determine how much you need to spend. If your home is older, for instance, and you’re simply looking to restore or refinish the floor, you can expect to about $2.50 per square foot, although this is dependent on where you live, as some stated will be more expensive than others.

If you’re looking to install an antique wood floor, on the other hand, then this will be a little more expensive, with prices averaging $3.00 per square foot, depending on the quality of the wood you want to install. For both purposes, you can expect to pay extra for installers if you’re not doing it yourself.

Whatever option you do go for, don’t let the cost put you off, for no matter what initial cost you have to pay, it will be more than worth it for years to come, for both while you’re living in your home and if you decide to sell.
