How to Build a Go Cart
Don’t let the thought of building a go cart intimidate you. This is an excellent project that can be completed by families. Encourage the children to become involved in building a go cart project with you. There are many things during the project that the children can help you with. The end result of a go cart is well worth the effort, time and money that you invest. Sure, you could purchase a go cart but building one is much more fun and a terrific way to spend quality time together as a family.
Sitting on a flat concrete area such as your driveway or the roadway, draw a rectangular box around you to determine what size of go cart you will need. Stretch your legs completely and lean back a little. This will give you the general dimensions for building go carts. You can add additional spacing for another person and increased bumper protection.
Select a general go cart plan to follow. You can find many on the Internet for free or even locate a book in your local library for building go carts. You will use your dimensions you drew out in the first step to modify your go cart. You will need to cut the parts for the frame and assemble the frame before any other part of the go cart. The frame will hold everything together.
After the frame is assembled, follow the plans and add a go cart seat. If it is a two passenger go cart, add both seats at this stage of the project. Once the seats are in place it will be time to add the steering, spindles and axles to your go carts. Engines and exhaust systems, throttles and brakes are next in the order to build. Finally, you will complete the go carts by adding the clutch and sprocket. Your go cart will be built for the family to enjoy. Remember safety suggestions and enjoy your new project.
