Learn About Motorcycle Gas Mileage
There is steep hike in the gas prices all around the world. People who travel a lot sure have felt the pinch and this hike has hit them hard. Many people are now opting for motorcycles for a simple reason of fuel economy. Motorcycle gas mileage is much higher than that of cars. As people are getting more aware and conscious about the mileage of vehicles, more and more motorcycle manufacturers are trying their best to give the maximum fuel efficiency in addition to the good looks.
Any motorcycle’s fuel economy is determined by three basic factors. First and most important one is the size of the engine. It is measured in term of CC (cubic centimetres). Another factor is the weight of the motorcycle. And last, the technique and style of riding which varies from one person to another.
When the engine capacity is large, this demands more horsepower for more speed. This results in more torque that leads to a higher rate of acceleration. Bikes with more CC give a better performance but at the cost of more fuel consumption and hence the fuel economy is reduced.
If the bike weighs more, this means that the engine has to work harder as bigger bikes need more energy to move. So, comparing two bikes having the same cc, the heavier bike will give you less mileage. A gallon of gas has limited amount of energy that it can give to the motorcycle. Heavier bikes need more energy to get started and to stop.
Motorcycle gas mileage also depends on the riding conditions. If you are riding your bike in the city, the frequency of acceleration and deceleration is more as compared to the highway.
Before you decide to buy a motorcycle, you need to see the driving conditions and your individual driving style. If you need to use it mostly for short distances where the frequency of stopping and going again is more, you should opt for a lighter bike so that you can get better motorcycle gas mileage. Whereas, driving on highways, a heavier bike with large engine capacity is a better option.
