Our Itinerary for Slovenia

By on March 27, 2006

Helia has come up with a customized itinerary that sounds great!

15-Days exploring Ljubljana; hiking inn-to-inn through the Julian Alps and Triglav National Park; Lake Bohinj; and Piran (on the Mediterranean).

They made the walks more difficult (at our request), built in some days for rest – or not -, and gave input regarding the weather, etc.

Our price includes: all accommodation in ***hotels, luggage transport between hotels, info packs with maps and routings, meeting and briefing, and a “hotline” for any potential problems.

We are also opting for halfboard (dinners and breakfasts) everywhere but Ljubljana and Piran – it will be fun to check out some of their restaurants.

The total price is 2/3′s less than some of the other trips we looked at in Slovenia. Yes…you can do this on your own for a lot less, but I’m getting too old to backpack. We’re looking forward to working with Helia – they’ve been extremely responsive e-mailing back and forth.

Helia also has, or will arrange, any sort of trip you’d like. Just because we like hiking doesn’t mean that you have to. Slovenia looks like a destination for everyone.

Next step is to decide – May or June and send a deposit.

The problem? Airfares are very high in June. Time for lots of air fare comparisons!

Adria is their National Airline and they fly out of Paris, Amsterdam and Frankfurt (to name a few cities). easyJet flys from London Stamsted. Ryanair has cheap tickets, but they don’t fly to Slovenia directly. When I “Orbitz”, for example, the best price seems to be buying a ticket from the U.S.-Ljubljana. I’m shocked to see the airlines have imposed taxes of $230 (average) on all flights. Almost 25% of the ticket is TAX. Amazing!

Train? You can easily reach Slovenia from Vienna, Venice, and Budapest. And, if you are planning a trip to any of those countries, that would be my choice. Eurail Austria/Slovenia/Croatia Pass

Since we’re flying from America, it’s a no-brainer – it will have to be air all the way! And, to save money, it will have to be MAY

Now….do I ticket now or hope that fares go down between now and then? Always decisions….
