Week of 12/27/99
This social studies unit, geared for about third grade, features a look at the way New Years are
celebrated in The United States, Ecuador, Greece, China, and in the Jewish tradition. The unit supports
Michigan Social Studies Standard 2.1 - Diversity of People, Places, and Cultures.
"The New Year theme was chosen because, though they may differ in time and place, New Year's traditions are found
throughout the world. This is an excellent way to learn about different cultures. Hopeful outcomes are congruent with the
goals; that the students will come away with a better understanding of the cultures and traditions of other countries."
Rating:Great hands-on activities and information for starting 2000!
