Bucket Buddies
Week of 08/13/2001

http://www.k12science.org/curriculum/bucketproj/

In this collaborative project, K-5 students in the United States and other countries will collect samples from local ponds to answer the question: Are the organisms found in pond water the same all over the world? Participants will:

Identify organisms in a water sample.
Compare their findings with other participating classes.
Determine which, if any, of the organisms are the same in other, more distant water sources.
Look for relationships and trends in the data collected by all project participants

Students will share their identifications with other project participants, and they will use the collected data to answer the central question: Did classrooms sampling fresh water sources around the world find the same organisms? Finally, the students will publish their conclusions in a report which will be posted to the project web site. The project starts September 1-October 12 and teachers need to register.

Rating: A great science project to start off the school year!
