Bathtubs start showing the signs of aging much sooner in comparison to other bathroom accessories. Resurfacing your bath tub is a very economical option as compared to replacing it. It can save you hundreds of dollars, and bathtub resurfacing is not difficult. You’ll need a proper resurfacing kit and some time.

Before you start working on resurfacing your bathtub, you must realize that you are going to work with a wide range of strong and harsh chemicals. You need to prepare yourself for that so that you don’t suffer and short term or long term effect of these chemicals. Switch on the exhaust fan and make sure that the windows are open. The place needs to be well ventilated. The fumes from the chemicals are toxic and can be very harmful if inhaled. They are also bad for your skin and eyes. So make sure to cover up yourself fully and also wear the protective goggles. Use good quality gloves that are able to handle the strong chemicals.

Once you are prepared, you need to first clean the bathtub using a sandpaper to get rid of oils and soap residue. Then rinse the bathtub with water. Let the bathtub dry completely so that you can apply primer reducer which will prepare the bathtub for primer. You can do this with the help of paper towels. There will also be some damages to the tub which will become more prominent after you apply the primer reducer. Repair the tub by applying the putty and let it dry for 30-45 minutes. Level the rough areas with the help of sandpaper. Apply the primer reducer again.

Now put the tape on the areas which do not need resurfacing. Apply the base coat and it is advisable to wear a respirator. Wait for 30 minutes and apply the top coat. You can use a spray gun so that you get an even coat and a fabulous finish.
