Tips on How to Extend Laptop Battery Life

A long battery life is still a wishful thinking. Most laptops have a battery life of almost 3 to 4 hours. Extend laptop battery life becomes an increasingly important if you are traveling. There is plenty of time while traveling, and this time can be utilized in a better way rather than waiting endlessly for something or the other.


One very effective way to extend the battery life of a laptop is to switch it off when not using. It is especially important to switch off the wireless card else it keeps searching for the networks and draws the precious power unnecessarily. If you are using Windows OS, you can choose the option of reducing the power consumption from control panel.

It is a good idea to use the batteries at room temperature. If you use the batteries in the extreme conditions, they drain faster. Also, charge it fully when doing so. Partially charging the battery every time can shorten its life span and reduce the performance.

If you are a frequent traveler, choose the latest, more sophisticated model that has an inbuilt feature to conserve power and if especially designed for frequent business travelers. All you need to do is to go through the user manual and make use of this feature. Li-Ion batteries have internal processors and always a wise choice and if you don’t use these batteries, discharge the batteries totally and then recharge them.

It is also equally important to maintain the batter when you are not using it. Avoid exposure to direct sunlight or other areas where it is exposed to the extreme temperature. It’s important to charge your laptop in the correct manner and use the original power chord. It is beneficial to keep the screen dim so that not much power is consumed. When USB devices are not in use, just shut them down or remove them.

To keep the transfer of power from the battery, keep the points of contact clean and free of dust. You can clean it with the cloth and a drop of rubbing alcohol.
