Leaky faucets can give you a tough time. Ever thought of fixing them yourself? Well, it’s not a bad idea at all. How to fix leaky shower faucet is not an easy question to answer. You need to do it without the help of a professional assistance. You need some professional functional tools, some time and you willingness to do it.


First of all, you need to cut off the water supply to the faucet, wherever it is. Then, open the faucet and drain out the water completely. Remove the screw of the faucet handle. There will be a cover and you can remove it with the help of a screwdriver. The faucet handle now comes off. You need to look for the rubber gasket. Find out how it looks. In case there is a black deposit on it, it is time for a new one.

Put a new ring inside the faucet handle and make sure that it has fitted in well. Tighten the handle. Now, put the shower head back to its place. Turn the water supply back on and see if there is any leak. If there is still a leak, just tighten the faucet handle a little more. If it still does not work, you need to call the professional.

If the shower head does not loosen easily, you can coat the joint with marine jelly or grease and let it sit for almost an hour you should not try to use the force to open the head. You also must use the Teflon tape and not the regular plumbers tape. It works much better though little expensive. Also, make sure that you don’t over tighten the joint. This can strip the thread and cracks the head assembly. If the shower head does not come off, it is advisable to replace the entire arm of shower.
