Unusual Wedding Dresses

Whether you feel like making sure your dress is eco-conscious and made of hemp or you’d rather try something truly bizarre like the singer Bjork’s orange wedding dress made entirely of paper, you’ll find that there is no shortage of unusual wedding dresses that can suit you and your own free spirit! Now more than ever, many brides are deciding that they don’t like being limited by the traditional colors and materials in terms of wedding dresses and instead are finding themselves dresses that suit them to a tee.

When it comes down to the wedding dress, many women are finding that they aren’t really content with the traditional white satin and lace number for their big day. They’re turning to new and exciting combinations and why not? A wedding is supposed to be your day, not anyone else’s and if you’ve never cared for a floor-length dress, why not get married in a short silk sheath? If you can’t find what you’re looking for at a store, and many women can’t, speak to a tailor. Custom made dresses are not outrageous and the dress of your dreams can be a truly one of a kind creation.

Many women who are foreign-born have often feel the need to assimilate while remaining true to their cultures and their families, and this pull can be quite strong on their wedding day. Many women are finding ways to combine traditions from their respective homelands and coming up with something completely unique. For instance, some Vietamese women get married in the traditional long ao dai, but have it made up in stunning Western white, while other women combine a Japanese kimono design into their dress.

Still other women are heading even further afield when it comes to getting the unusual wedding dress of their dreams. Maybe you always enjoyed fairy tales as a young girl, or perhaps you simply feel like you’ve nabbed Prince Charming; there are many women who have found that having a medieval or Renaissance dress has suited them entirely. The dress, usually a long full skirt topped with a figure-flattering corset, is one that suits many different body types, when done up in pale rose pink or pale icy blue and topped off with a tiara, can make you feel like a real princess.

For princesses from the big screen, even Disney is getting in the act; you can find dresses that have been inspired by the Disney heroines. From the sleekly elegant sheath known as the Ariel dress to the elegantly draped column dress for Princess Jasmine, you know you’ll be getting a real fairy tale come to life!

Remember, when all is said and done, your wedding dress needs to suit no one but you. Get as unusual or as creative as you want, and make sure that you have a great time doing it!
