Everyone gets fed up of old furniture and it’s too expensive to get new wood furniture regularly! So what can you to give your furniture a face-lift? Well it’s a good idea to try refacing your kitchen cabinets which get grungy with cooking fumes and grease stains. Here are a few tips and tricks to help you do it as fast as possible.

• Start with removing the old paint which is still on your old furniture. You can remove old paint primarily by two different methods like sanding, chemical strippers and a heat gun. Sanding is labor intensive and if the layers of paint are really five or six layers deep then its time to try another method like chemical stripping which works faster and has minimal labor required. Le the chemical stripper sit for the time required as recommended by the manufacturer and remove as much as the softened paint as you can. Use paint strippers, scrapers, as well as steel wool, to clean the paint from the wood. Use gloves and mouth protection if you are allergic or don’t like the fumes.

• Once the paint layers have been scarped off, allow the wood time to dry .This will take a day or two. Once the wood has dried sufficiently sand the wood till you get a smooth finish to the outer most surface.

• Use a grain filler to fill in any surface defects. You will get this is different shades to suit the color of the wood you have selected. Choose the color of the grain filler which will be the same as the final finish of the furniture. If you are not sure try it out on a separate piece of wood to confirm.

• Apply sanding sealer and then stain to get the best finish for your furniture.
