While time sharing ownerships are on a steady increase, there is a constant negative feedback about the entire concept of timeshare ownership. Out here, you pay for not an individual ownership but you pay to get a property which you are supposed to share with a lot of other people. So before you go ahead and invest in a condominium, you need to understand the disadvantages of timeshare owners.

The first fear is signing the check. There is a lot of drama involved in sharing a time share resort, for here, you have no clue as to when the resort might go bankrupt. You are also unsure about your overseas ownership. Besides, you need to think whether your pocket actually allows you to afford a timeshare ownership for fee or not. If yes, go right ahead and invest but if you do not have the required money, it is advisable you back off.

At the same time, there have been cases wherein time share owners are known to complain of an exorbitant annual fee which came as a hidden charge.

Some other disadvantages faced by time share owners include their inability to distribute a share of holidays to their relatives and friends, not being able to use their annual holiday packages owing to time constraints and the usual swapping charges.

At the same time, the retail value of timeshares rarely appreciates and the growth prospects are slim when compared to a normal property. Besides, the annual maintenance charge is unusually high and there are times when a timeshare owner needs to negotiate the costs with various other exchange companies.

When you are about to take a timeshare ownership, almost no bank is ready to mortgage your timeshare and you need to arrange for the upfront payment. The upfront payment can be really high and can cause a serious set back to your bank account.
