HEAVENLY BODY NOW IN HEAVEN

A Review of PRODUCT TITLE

by Gloria Stern

As a posthumous tribute to her father, Susan Bernard, daughter of Bernard of Hollywood, the photographer who "discovered" Marilyn Monroe, and inheritor of reams of pictures taken of the sex goddess during her movie career, has created a CD highlighting the life of this tragic figure. It is available in German and English and includes a screen saver.

Marilyn Monroe, waif, starlet, star and sex goddess, first came to Bernard asking him to picture her sexy. He did that and it led to a fabulous legendary career. Enchanted by the woman-child, Bernard retained his mentor relationship with her throughout her several marriages and more than two dozen films. Being a fan of Marilyn Monroe will help to appreciate this historic compact disc.

The interactivity features pictures, of course, including that one burned in our consciousness as the air from the subway buoys her white pleated skirt revealing her sensuous thighs and transparent undergarments. Ranging from early pictures created for print model assignments to the tragic scene as she announced her second divorce to the public, the pictorial report is accompanied by music and voice over journal entries. Consisting in linear leaves with pages of text along side the photographs, the CD neglects to make use of the CD format. Interaction is limited to a choice of one of four threads: pictures, (some video), journal entries (accompanying text), timeline (complete with distorted icons) and trivia. The sound volume can be adjusted to feature either the music track or a voice over reading the journal pages.

Marilyn's life is handled with a reverent hand. You get a keen sense of this icon's disturbed career in phases of her life; Norma Jean; The Birth Of Marilyn Monroe; The Goddess; Persona; Renaissance and The Legacy. Details concerning her three marriages and her tragic miscarriage, however, are omitted. Having been close by her side through this entire period, Bernard watched the orphan beauty rise to become the highest paid star in Hollywood.

Once Marilyn's suicide is revealed, Susan Bernard relates the parallel story of her orphan father and his equally sad end.
