WorldVillage FAQ

Welcome to the WorldVillage Frequently Asked Questions Page

What is WorldVillage?

WorldVillage is a family of web sites focused on providing a family-friendly Internet experience. Each one of our sites carves out a specific niche we believe serves a portion of the home computing market. Main features include software reviews, downloads, "clean" chat rooms, discussion boards, online games, contests, newsletters, special offers, a banner exchange, free worldvillage.com email, and a family-friendly search engine.

What is the philosophy of WorldVillage?

WorldVillage is a 'family-safe' site. Our tone and presentation are upbeat, friendly, and lively. We screen our editorial content very closely to see that it adheres to the high standards for our site. In order to provide a valuable resource for parents and children, we present material that is free of violence, occultism, and/or pornography. We feel there are more than enough avenues on the internet to access this type of material. Instead, we have chosen to create an environment which is family friendly, that is, safe for people of all ages to visit.

Why the name "WorldVillage"?

When we first started in 1995, our vision was to create a site that would attract a global audience seeking to find common goals in a family-safe environment. But with the growth of the Internet in the United States, we find the majority of our visitors are Americans. However, on any given day, WorldVillage attracts visitors from virtually every nation which has Internet accessibility. In a way, the Internet IS a WorldVillage!

Who is the Mayor and can I be elected to the position?

Joel Comm is the Mayor of WorldVillage. For those who would seek to hold this office, we regret that there will not be any elections. It is a benevolent dictatorship. ;-)

Who writes for WorldVillage?

Over the years, over 25 writers and artists have contributed to various portions of WorldVillage. They have been a diverse group of professionals from all over the United States and Canada. Conducting our business almost entirely in cyberspace, these qualified and talented people have been the strength of our community. You may see a listing of current WorldVillage contributors at our Post Office.

What is a WorldVillage CITIZEN?

We welcome visitors to WorldVillage in large numbers every day. We are always glad to see new faces, and hope that each person will find an area of interest to make their visit worthwhile. In fact, we hope that each person will join with us in becoming a WorldVillage Citizen! A Citizen is simply a person who joins our mailing list, Family First, and is entitled to weekly news about the happenings in WorldVillage.

Citizens also have unique opportunities to browse a members only web page, participate in special contests, and actually have a hand in helping create new content for WorldVillage. You may become a citizen by sending us mail.
