Abortion Procedures


  • Suction D&C Method: (dilation and curettage): This method is used in 90% of abortions performed by the 12th week of pregnancy.

  • Dilation and Evacuation (D&E) Method: This method is the usual course of action between 12 and 16 weeks of pregnancy.

  • Induced labor is used after 16 weeks.

  • Hysterotomy is a miniature C-section, and the method used most commonly after 20 weeks of induction of labor fails.

  • Partial birth abortion: performed after viability with the intent of "harvesting" the organs.
