Marcus's Story

"Money can't buy happiness"

In 1989, I knew this guy who had a nice girlfriend. We used to see each other and sports was our kind of game, he liked footy and soccer, and he also liked to use his computer sometimes. He would do office work for a company, and he was financially well off. His parents owned a house valued at about $500 grand. They bought him a house on one of the most expensive areas in town. He owned a BMW sportscar and used to take himself to the footy games all the time. He used to lavish his girlfriend with gifts I had never comprehended the value of. He was a wealthy young heir of a chain of jewelry proprietors. I knew him for about three years until sadly, he died in 1992 aged 29.

How he died, was a long story:

"What about our life? Just not now, Marcus, not now."

"But what about the child we just conceived out of love? Are you trying to tell me something?"

"I certainly am, I'm telling you that I'm not having this child. I hate children! Don't you know that! Don't you know that!"

It was too late, he never realized the signs she sometimes gave him. Every time said how he loved to have a family and how he liked kids, she would manifest the signs of a pure hatred of children.

"I..."

"Yes, you what?"

"I..." He had a big lump in his throat at the thought of her going through with the abortion operation, and how it would destroy a child he so badly wanted.

His girlfriend then walked out the door. She never returned, she packed all her gear and left him inside his house, badly wounded at heart.

Her girlfriend called a week later, only to tell him the bad news he had anticipated for the past week. Every time he would get up in the morning, he would have had dreams about how his girlfriend was pregnant (and having the child) instead of an abortion. Every night, he would wonder about what his girlfriend was doing.

"Marcus, It's Tracy...."

Marcus hung-up and stood there in shock, not wanting to hear anything else.

She hung up and then called again in half an hour.

"Marcus, It's me, and I want to tell you that it's" -- handset shoved down in shock.

Marcus assumed “all over," and he was right. She had the abortion and was telling him that it was all over.

"Marcus, I'm sorry, but I just didn't want it. I don't want your kids. You know I hate kids don’t you?"

Marcus, unable to fight back his pain as tears welled up in his eyes, broke down over the phone. After talking on the phone awhile and panicking over the abortion, he said, "Why did you do this to me......" ten emotional minutes pass... "My little darling, I'm going down with you."

Tracy then panicked... Knowing exactly what Marcus had implied.

"Marcus?...Marcus!!!?? Please!!!"

Marcus hung up and she called the police and told them where to go.

But when police arrived.....It was too late.

They found Marcus on the concrete just outside the side window of his fancy home. He suffered severe head injuries and was convulsing helplessly, bleeding profusely from a massive wound to his head. He had literally split his entire skull open in front of his neighbors who were horrified. He was rushed to the hospital but died from massive head and spinal injuries a short time after. His girlfriend, Tracy, still questions why she had the abortion. She said it was needless (they could have had the child). She said she was being selfish and pathetic and she will regret her decision for rest of her life.

She WILL regret her decision, for the REST of her life. Anyone can assure that.

As to why a wealthy man would kill himself, well, I hope this story makes some people appreciate the fact that money doesn't mean everything. This story certainly advocates the fact that it certainly does not always mean happiness. Money could not have bought happiness for Marcus. Well, now, sadly, he is not here anymore.
