Yoga Wear: Who You Are!
When you are practicing yoga, your yoga wear makes a statement about who you are. If you wear your shabbiest clothes to the yoga studio, throwing on torn old slacks and a stained T-shirt, you will give off the impression that you don’t care about yourself or your appearance. Despite the fact that you are working hard to practice your yoga, you will seem lazy and uncaring, and even your teacher may think along those lines. If, however, you take a little care with your appearance, others will notice that you are worth caring about because you care about yourself. Such little things can make a big difference in both how other see us, and in how we see ourselves.
Your yoga clothing should not be something that you throw together from the discard pile. Yoga clothing should be easy to move in, loose but not flowing, and comfortable. Yoga clothing should also convey something about your personality or sense of style, even if only to say that you liked the fit of those black tights on sale last week. This is not merely a matter of vanity, but is also a matter of how you feel about yourself.
If you are constantly wearing clothing that is ill fitting or unflattering, you will find yourself being lumped into a category of people who do not care about themselves, and are thus not worth knowing. With enough reinforcement, this attitude could begin to penetrate, making you feel worthless and unworthy. A little effort and a simple change of clothing can have a profound effect on both the way others see you, and your own self esteem.
You may think that working out is excluded from these ideas, but appearing at your best is just as important at the gym and even at home. This does not mean that you should style your hair and apply your makeup before yoga, however if you feel beautiful, you will feel confident, and if you feel confident, then you will try harder poses and push yourself to do better. Even at home, knowing that you look great will help you to quash that little piece of self-doubt and allow you to work out without trouble. You will be more willing to work out at home and at the gym if you don’t feel ugly when you do. It’s time to dress like you mean it, and hit the gym.
