Nintendo’s Wii Fit is a first of its kind “game” for the Wii console in which players can improve their health while having fun. Players simply stand on the Wii Balance Board and shift balance from one leg to the other when commanded by the game. The board then sends information wirelessly to the Wii console.


While this certainly sounds simple, Wii Fit offers a number of different modes of play. For instance, one challenge requires players to hit a virtual soccer ball with their head. Just lean back and forth into the path of the virtual ball to smack it at the goal. Another mode involves shifting back and forth on the board to maneuver small balls into holes on tilting platforms.

Online capabilities will also be included in the game, and while players cannot compete directly in real time it is expected that players will be able to swap personal bests and award-winning times with one another, fostering a friendly spirit of competition as folks try and beat their friends’ scores.

The announcement of this new game and peripheral took the annual Electronic Entertainment Expo in California by storm this year, earning rave comments and awards from some of the most trusted names in video game journalism and even conventional media.
