7 Tips for Being a True Friend
It seems so hard these days to find time to get together with friends. You try to make plans and something comes up or you pick at day and one of the kids gets sick – yadda, yadda, yadda…
So, how can you make your friendships work with all these forces working against you?
Master healer and radio show host Deborah King gives her 7 tips for making your friendships survive and thrive in this busy world.
Find Time
Instead of trying to have 30 acquaintances, keep several friends very close. If you can’t get together with him or her, at least text or email that you are thinking of them so they know.
Avoid Scorekeeping
Don’t always be taking when you contact a friend. Do things just because. Surprise people. It’s a give and take relationship for both people.
Be in the Moment
When you are together, make every effort to give full attention to your friend. Put the mobile device down. Really listen and ask good questions. And, she says, don’t hold back your feelings. It really shows you care and will give honest answers.
Keep Your Ego in Check
When you let your issues to get in the way, it can hurt a friendship. Keep yourself balanced and healthy and it will help your friendships.
Support Your Friend even if you don’t agree
You can still support a friend without agreeing or complying with what he or she is doing. Showing support through difficult times is being a good friend.
Don’t Leave Him/Her High and Dry in difficult times
Stand by your friend through difficulties; you never know when you will need someone to lean on in the future.
Accept the Good and the Bad
Accept the whole person that is your friend, including the good and the bad parts. Remember, you have those good and bad parts too.
