A Prairie Home Companion
A group of men I used to get together with once a month had two things in common. We were all foster parents, and we all enjoyed the art of Garrison Keillor. Part of our meeting time was spent eating pizza, and listening to a selection from today’s Family Site which had a theme for the evening’s discussion.
I am talking about A Prairie Home Companion. This has been, in my opinion, the best use of public radio in the history of broadcasting. The humor, the compassion, the true understanding that Mr. Keillor brings to his programs is unrivalled in their originality and scope. At this site, it is possible to wander through his world, at a casual pace of course, and find out what makes the program tick. There are performance listings, audio and scripts of past shows, as well as ticket information and upcoming programs. It is also possible to link to the show from this site to listen to the show every Saturday night. There is even a chance to get a message to Mr. Keillor himself, via the “Post to the Host” link on the page.
In all, this is a fun place to visit. It is just like Lake Woebegone. So quiet, you can hear the crickets cricketing, you can hear the birds swallowing, and the fireflies humming like a bird. In all, a nice place to visit. Hope you do soon.
