AI jokes at a comedy club

What if AI Could Tell Jokes as Legendary Comedians?

Can artificial intelligence be funny? What if ChatGPT was able to tell self-referential jokes in the styles of classic comedians? We asked the tool to do exactly that. Here are eight jokes in the style of legendary comedians. And yes, Bill Cosby was a legendary comedian AND a horrible human being.

So read these in the voice of the comedian listed. Which is the most believable to you? Comment below!

  1. Bill Burr: “You know what’s ironic about AI? They’re smart enough to take over the world, but still can’t figure out that when I say ‘turn the lights off,’ I don’t want to hear a detailed history of Thomas Edison!”
  2. Robin Williams: “AI is like that one overachiever in class. You know, the one who does everyone’s homework and still has time to calculate the probability of alien life in the universe. It’s like, chill out, man!”
  3. Sam Kinison: “If AI is so smart, why haven’t they created an AI comedian that can actually make people laugh? Oh, wait… I guess they did! It’s called a sitcom laugh track!”
  4. Dave Chappelle: “AI is like the ultimate straight man in a comedy duo. It never cracks a smile, and it always sets you up for the punchline. But every now and then, you catch it stealing the spotlight with a dad joke.”
  5. Bill Cosby: “You know, back in my day, artificial intelligence meant putting on a pair of glasses and pretending to be smart. Now it’s putting on a pair of glasses and asking Siri to tell you a knock-knock joke.”
  6. Jerry Seinfeld: “What’s the deal with AI? I mean, they’re supposed to be smart, but then they recommend a playlist that’s a mix of polka music and heavy metal. What’s going on there?”
  7. Louis CK: “Isn’t it funny how we’re all worried about robots taking our jobs? I mean, I’m more worried about them taking my spot on stage! At least I know I can always fall back on being a robot repairman.”
  8. Jerry Lewis: “Artificial intelligence? More like artificial emotions! These computers can do calculations faster than a speeding bullet, but ask them to tell a joke, and they’re slower than my grandma at a crosswalk!”
