America Links Up: A Kids Online Teach-in
I was watching television the other night, and a commercial caught my eye. It was about a little girl traveling by plane, and she was wandering through an airport by herself. The point of the ad was that we don’t let our children wander through unknown places by themselves where they might be hurt or scared. It turns out it was an ad for exploring the Internet. The organization that presented that ad is the subject of today’s FamSite.
Called America Links Up, it is a web site that is a public awareness and education campaign sponsored by a broad-based coalition of non-profits, education groups, and corporations concerned with providing children with a safe and rewarding experience online. This is a must see site for parents whose children are using the Internet on a regular and on-going basis. The information here is invaluable. The are tool and tips for parents which include browsers and filters, resources, a web dictionary, and a curriculum for both adults and kids. The resources for kids are just as complete, with enough variety to keep children of all ages busy for hours.
