Andrew Johnson National Historical Site

Today the stop on our visits to sites that honor and reflect the spirit of the Americans who have held the highest office in our nation. Today we visit the one of a president that was courageous during his term in office no matter what the price.

The site is the Andrew Johnson National Historical Site that honors the 17th President of the United States. He was not elected to the office, but succeeded upon the death of Abraham Lincoln. He tried to put the programs of his predecessor into effect, but was not completely successful, and ultimately wound up being impeached. He later returned to political office after his term in the White House as a US Senator in 1875, where he died in office.
