Anne Frank Stichting
Several years ago, I was sent to the Netherlands on business for a couple of months. While there, I spent a lot of time sightseeing, doing typical tourist things. But the most impressive sight I visited is one of the most well known houses in the world. That house is the subject of today’s Famsite of the Day.
The site is called Anne Frank Stichting, or, in English, Anne Frank House. It is located on a normal, every day street in Amsterdam, next to a canal, at 263 Prinsengracht. The house is several hundred years old, dating from a time when houses were taxed by their width. This leads to a lot of long, narrow buildings in the city. This site is a very good presentation of the story of Anne Frank, her family, and the others with them who hid from the German occupation forces for over 2 years. You actually see the rooms where they lived, slept, and survived. It was very moving to have been there in person, and this site catches the spirit of that time in our history.
This site serves as a further example of the benefits of the Internet. Others would not experience the type of material here were it not for this medium. Enjoy the visit here, listen to the messages, and reflect on what you see.

FYI – “Anne Frank Stichting” doesn’t mean Anne Frank House. It means “Anne Frank Foundation,” and is the name of a foundation in honor of Anne Frank that defends human rights and prevent discrimination. Anne Frank Huis is the Dutch for Anne Frank House.
