Was it the first space heater ever made, and re-discovered on “Antiques Road Show”? Was it the space heater used to keep the aliens comfortable in Roswell, New Mexico? Or is it an over-priced electric fireplace?
If you guessed comfortable aliens, you probably own two or three already and are looking for more.
If you guessed over-priced electric fireplace, you were right. But you have to be wondering: “Why would anybody pay $2,500 for an electric fireplace?” The answer is simple. An electric fireplace is a piece of furniture first, and a space heater second.
No matter how much you pay for an electric fireplace, they all come equipped with the same 1500 watt (5000 Btu) heater.
Just like any other piece of furniture, the price is determined by the quality of materials and optional enhancements such as built in bookshelves, curio cabinets or entire entertainment centers.
What cracks me up is even if you go momentarily insane and spend $2,500 for a space heater, you still have to put it together. But I guess if you have $2500 to burn, you’ll have $50 left over for someone to assemble it.
