Blondie & Dagwood

Sunday morning funnies in the newspaper have long been an American tradition. In years past, the funnies at one time were what were responsible for selling so many papers. But with other media becoming more popular, the Sunday funnies have fallen by the wayside. But they are still there, and some have been for many years.

Today’s Family Site looks at one of the most popular and family oriented ones ever written. It is called Blondie, and has been a daily comic for over 65 years. First created by Chic Young in 1930, it is the story of a Jazz-age flapper named Blondie Boop-a-doop, and her millionaire boyfriend, Dagwood Bumstead. The strip is drawn today by Chic’s son Dean, and artist Denis Lebrun, and continues to be a very popular daily feature. Who can forget Dagwood’s running into the mailman Mr. Beasley, or his boss Mr. Dithers, or the sandwich which bears his name?
