Curling Basics
While the Winter Olympics was on, I found myself thoroughly hooked on watching a sport I really hadn’t paid much attention to in the past: curling.
Every afternoon when I came home from work CNBC would have curling matches on, and as I watched, I became more and more fascinated with the precision sport. I was bummed when the competition finally ended!
Well, I still have curling on my mind, so I selected today’s FamilyFirst site as an excellent aid to those not familiar with the sport to learn it. It’s also great for aficionados who might not be familiar with every aspect.
It’s called Curling Basics. It’s hosted in Germany, but has an English version. It’s loaded with Flash animations demonstrating various shots and strategies.
For instance, see an animation of the placement of a back house weight. A back house weight is a stone that reaches the back of the twelve foot circle.
Besides the animated shots, there are also comprehensive rules of the game, both international and Canadian versions.
There are also links to curling books, curling sites and a guestbook.
So enjoy today’s FamilyFirst offering. And if you happen to catch a curling match on TV, you’ll be able to keep up with the action and explain it to everyone else in the room!
