Exploratorium Exploranet

The marriage of science and technology is a direct result of our educational process. As the quality of education improved, so did the benefits that our nation saw from that process. The microprocessor was created only 26 years ago. Computers as we know them have only been around for less than 10 years.

Sites like todays are both a result of that process, and the reason for its existence. The Exploratorium Exploranet is a cyber site that is a museum of science, art, and human perception with over 650 interactive “hands on” exhibits. It is only possible because of our technology, and is being used to inspire young minds to create new technology. (Sort of a high tech “Which came first, the chicken or the egg” scenario.) Here a visitor can dissect a cow’s eye, build an ear guitar, and learn about the concepts and theories that contribute to contemporary complexity research (don’t ask me, read the article).

There is an actual, physical Exploratorium in San Francisco. President Clinton and Vice President Gore visited it last year as a part of NetDay ’96. If you can’t go there in person, you can at least get the experience by visiting them on line. Have fun.
