Grouseland

It has been awhile since we have taken a stop on our tour of U.S. Presidents; so I thought today would be the time to continue. This journey to sites that reflect the lives and times of the men who led our country is a little over halfway done, so let’s get started with today’s site.

The site is called Grouseland, which is the name of the home of the man who has the distinction of serving the shortest time in the office of the president, one short month. He also is the grandfather of a president. His name is William Henry Harrison, who was inaugurated on March 4th, 1841, and passed away only one month later on April 4th. He gave one of the longest inauguration speeches ever, lasting one hour forty-five minutes in a wet cold rain. He caught a cold that day, which developed into pleurisy and pneumonia, from which he died. At this site you can find out about not only his home, but also other historical sites around the area of the country he lived, Vincennes, Indiana.

Not being in office for a very long period of time prevented his administration having a major impact on our nation’s history. But he was the ninth president of our country, and deserves the respect that office brings with it. Enjoy your stop here today.
