Memes are a wonderful thing. Since around 2011 memes have been the widely referred to term for anything that is new, exciting and funny. Probably its biggest year was 2012 when everyone was making memes, but we must never forget that the roots were there before the tree. On that note, what happened afterwards? There is still some talk of memes, but in general it has really died down. The websites that were once covered with pictures of memes have now largely been left to individual artists as a way to show their work. Not a bad tradeoff. Of course, there are still memes being made, they just aren’t the hype like they used to be.
