Influence of Television to Our Children

There are parents who don’t their children to watch commercial TV. There are also those that allow their children to watch TV shows. In fact, the debate to let the kids watch TV or not has not yet been settled. There are those that TV is a waste of time and has a negative impact to the kids. There are those that say that TV is a great pastime. Here are some of the effects of TV to our children.

There are many TV shows that feature content that is not appropriate for children. There are shows that feature sex, drug abuse and violence. Although there are a few select shows that don’t show these things, most of the time, these are featured in current shows. These are bad for children so when they are allowed to watch these shows, they must be accompanied by adults to help them understand.

Materialism is featured heavily in films and television. There are so many commercials that show necklaces, bracelets, signature bags, and gadgets. While these things are not bad at all, this can make the kids focus on getting things that they don’t need at all. Instead of focusing on the important things like grades, study, homework and responsibilities, their minds are filled with material things.

As parents, it is important to really monitor the TV programs that our children watch. You might be surprised to see your kids behaving different when in fact they are slowly influenced by the values that they get in watching television.
