Learn Hebrew

The variety of languages that we speak is staggering. Some of them obviously have the same root, so their similarity to related languages can be readily observed. For example, Spanish, Portuguese, French, and Italian have a common Latin ancestor, and the result is that if you are fluent any any of those tongues, learning the other three is relatively easy.
Similarly, while heavily influenced by Latin, the English tongue is actually descended from German. English speakers find learning German a strangely natural experience.

Then, there are the truly ancient languages, whose origin seems to be that they have always been around. Such is the case with today’s FamilyFirst selection: Learn Hebrew.
Hebrew is a language that sounds similar to Klingon, with its “acks” and “ochs.” As far as learning it, you have to master a new alphabet as well as new words, making it one of the more difficult new language experiences. Further complicating things is that you read from right to left!
However, the human mind is a muscle that is strengthened by further learning. So don’t be afraid to give it a workout by at least teaching yourself a few Hebrew words each day.
Talk about impressing your coworkers, show up to your jobsite today with a new aniva and perhaps a new pair of na’alayim. Then, boot up your machshev and get to work.
