This past weekend, a film opened that redefines the concept of honesty, truth, and the American way. In short, it is the largest collection of half-truths, out-right lies, and distorted, out-of-context quotes that I have seen or heard since the impeachment of President William Jefferson Clinton (and I lived through and remember Watergate). I won’t even soil this site by mentioning the name of the film. But, in the true grassroots spirit of our great nation, there is a silver lining in this cloud, and today’s Family First site is proud to promote it.
The site is called Michael Moore Hates America. It is the website of filmmaker Michael Wilson, who unlike Mr. Moore, has a positive and refreshing outlook on life. Contrary to its title, Michael Moore Hates America isn�t a hatchet job on the filmmaker. It�s a journey across the nation where Mr. Wilson meet celebrities, scholars and average folks alike, to find out whether the American Dream is still alive! In the process, they take a closer look at Michael Moore�s claims about the country, its people, and the American way of life. Yes, I have seen the film that you referring to, and I still stand by my comments in the review. Mr. Moore is the epitome of the comments from Thomas Jefferson that free speech is not about the speech you agree with, it is about the speech you don’t agree with. What this site does (and it is obvious the few if any of you have visited it)is point out the good side of America, the parts of our country that are working, not the parts that are not working. Mr. Moore refuses to be interviewed for this film. I guess it is okay for him to libel and slander others under the protection of the First Admendment, but when others try to do the same to him, he runs and hides.
Mr. Moore has taken the art of film documentary and sunk it to the level of the William Randolph Hearst newspapers in the late 19th/early 20th century. Remember where the term “yellow journalism” originated. This film is more in that mold than any other film I have ever seen. Unfortunately, it will most likely win an Oscar. But that only goes to show the shallowness of the intellectuals that create our entertainment industry. Aftere all, they deal in fantasy and make-believe every day. I guess they don’t see the difference in the real world, where crimes don’t get solved in an hour, and family turmoil is not a 30 minute sitcom.
Michael Moore’s film is good filmmaking and calling it propaganda is a weak counter-argument, because propaganda is a broad term that could define anything.
Saying that Moore’s film consists of lies is simply in itself a lie. What Moore does is present an opinion and he does that by rearranging truths in ways he sees fit. And there is nothing wrong with that. If there was, you wouldn’t see the Weinsteins producing this film.
I don’t know enough about this Michael Wilson fella to comment, but he’ll have a tough act to follow and I don’t like his chances to follow up effectively as the whole basis for the film seems clearly derived from hate for a person who excercises free speech and it does not even bother to attack the opposing perspective with a fresh title and poster.
I have this advice to Mr. Wilson (and it appears that it’s too late now). Make a movie and express what you feel, but a) change the title, b) change the poster and c) don’t talk about Moore, because if you do, you’ll just wind up sounding like a sore whiner.
Be original – make your point without pointing fingers at people that disagree with you and without uninformed statements about who hates what. One of the things to like about Moore is that he has created his own style of filmmaking that is unique and passionate – deviations of this will look like bland copies, even if they argue for the opposing view.
I guess we’ll just wait and see whether Mr. Wilson’s film holds a candle to Moore’s, but right now what we know is that among Fahernheit 911’s accomplishments are a) the palme d’or, b) record earnings for documentaries and c) enthusiastic reviews from the best critics such as Jonathan Rosenbaum, A.O. Scott and Roger Ebert.
Not too bad, eh? And it doesn’t sound like any of them have problems with the arguments presented in the movie.
I don’t agree with everything Michael Moore says in his books and in his films, but Fahrenheit 911 was as patriotic a work as I have ever seen in theatres. We need more people like him in this world.
As an Australian it’s interesting watching you Americans going over the top on this issue (as always). Your culture is so fearful that you seem to attack anyone, and each other, when an opinion or culture is too different from your own. Australia can identify closely with the American culture, perhaps a little more like the Canadians, but even we have trouble with your over the top nature. Just relax and accept whats different. Your country will not implode and the rest of the world will not destroy you. The only reason you have these “terrorists” attacking you is that you’re in everyones face with your military, economic aggressiveness and your push of culture on the rest of us.

Let’s see, we’ve got tons of right-wing media outlets who presents opinion as fact constantly. Bill O’Reilly is like something straight out of 1984. You shouldn’t be surprised that Moore even describes his own movie as being propaganda that has a liberal slant. He has an opinion, and he is using the facts to support it, much the same way you would do in an essay.

Moore has said that he has made a movie that is biased according to his own opinion, and that’s fine. That’s what being an American is all about. The other guy is able to make his point as he wishes, and that’s equally excellent. I may not agree with either of them, and that’s also fine. I have to agree with ELizard. It’s very hard not to argue that the fast one Cheney pulled on us offering Haliburton exclusive rights to government contracts in Iraq is one of the sorriest excuses of cronyism in history. If that’s not corruption I truly don’t know what is. Additionally, I find it interesting that Bush claims to be a man of the people when in fact he well knows his staunchest support comes from the wealthy, elite of this country. The sad thing is people are fooled by his $300 dollar tax break into thinking he really cares about them. I feel sorry for people who are so easily persuaded.
As far as leaving America, that is exactly the defeatest attitude that has infiltrated and undermined the liberal factions of our country. We can’t ever give up because we know people like Bill O’Reilly and Rupert Murdoch will never cease their war on the left. It has been a long time coming that the right side has had a taste of its own medicine and gotten some shock and awe thrown back at it. I’m sad to hear that Air America is failing due to lack of listeners. It seems liberals have still not rallied together and conservatives should hope that day never comes. As an independent thinker who lived through 30 years of violence and terrorism in Northern Ireland, all I can say is that you Americans are all quick to talk up a good fight – a fight which will be fought by the young and invariably poor who lay down their lives for those of the middle to upper classes of American life. Also Micheal Moore was recently proven wrong in most of his “facts” in a newsweek articule that showed that the plane that transported the Bin laden family actually was in the air sep. 14, when air space offically was reopen. Secondly, the Bin ladens were questioned and found to have no terrrist links. Finally, to suggest that President Bush was involved in 9/11/01 in order to appese his “friend” Osama and for economic gain is not only stupid but down right retarted. To suggest that Bush knew of 9/11 but didn’t do anything in order to help a company his father and the Bin Laden invested in is insane. As an American, I want to comment on the film all the pundits are talking about, not Spiderman 2, but Fahrenheit 9/11.
Though many people in Europe and elsewhere with strong anti-American sentiments have toasted Michael Moore for his documentary, many Americans do not respect him. He is a socialist, and an extreme leftist, and much in his documentary was fabricated. One should not put lies in documentaries, but that is what he has done. Because of all the controversy, a lot of people have gone to see his film, but that does not mean they will vote against US President George W. Bush in November.
Truth is more important than supporting one’s cause. And only a cause that can be supported by truth is worth fighting for. Such is the cause of Taiwan’s independence.
But many people, especially those with leftist agendas (and nations like China) think truth does not matter as long as their cause is supported. They are wrong, and in the end their own lies will destroy them.
Propaganda can blind men’s eyes for a while, but God does not let it continue indefinitely.
The truth will come out. The Chinese Nationalist Party (KMT) had to face this reality, and so will extreme leftists like Michael Moore, and social manipulators and propagandists in other fields, such as public education.

Michael Moore, as with all other leftists, including most all of Hollywood simply hate our President. Why? Well the answer is simple. Now here it comes, and sorry to be direct, but it’s the hard truth….. George Bush is a Christian. A devout Christian. A self professed born again Christain. Not a suedo Christian who practices their faith once a year, but a committed man of Jesus Christ. They might actually discover that they have been leading hollow lives and that scares them to death. Because of this, NOTHING this president does could ever be commended. Eliminating Saddam Hussein’s regime would be praised by liberals if the president was a democrat. France would be judged for what they are – a country more concerned with $100 billion in Iraqi oil contracts…only if our President was a democrat. The UN would be acknowledged as a corrupt, oil-for-terror, useless body which only endangers free countries by failing to make good on its word – if their president was a democrat. Fighting back against terrorism with our military with the success achieved by Bush would be praised by liberals only if the President is a democrat. Even the pro-life agenda could possibly be of interest to liberals if we had a pro-life democrat president. Instead, blind hatred rules the minds of liberals such as Michael Moore and his followers over the notion of a second Bush term. They turn positive news about the economy, our progress in fighting terrorism, changing our corrupt public education system, and many other issues into innacurate negative diatribe. I should know. Up until 12 years ago, I was an amoral, closed hearted liberal.
The reason that liberals hate George W. Bush has nothing to do with him being a Christian. It has everything to do, however, with him playing God. Conservatives have NO right to enforce legislation that prohibits abortion, same-gender marriage, or other acts that are condemned by Christian teachings. Religion is usually a good thing, UNTIL you start forcing your beliefs on other people. If you define a certain act as “immoral” and believe that people who commit such an act will be punished or damned, that’s fine. But that’s YOUR belief, and you shouldn’t force people who believe differently to live by YOUR standards of what is moral or immoral. Let God take care of people who don’t follow Christian teachings, because it’s His business, not yours. Liberals hate George W. Bush because they are fearful that he is violating the separation of church and state.
In response to your claim that Michael Moore hates Bush for being a Christian, you should know that Michael Moore was planning to become a priest at one point in his life (and I heard that from Bill O’Reilly, a conservative). Michael Moore and other liberals feel moral outrage at what the Bush administration has done. Bush believes that it is morally right to declare war on a country that never attacked us, but that it is morally wrong for people of the same gender to be married. He is viewed as a fundamentalist and an extremist, and with good reason. The thought of him staying in office for another four years is frightening. He is arrogant and believes that what he wants is what God wants. I sometimes wonder if God is furious with him for using religion to promote his political agenda.
MV is a perfect example of a mind completely turned inside out by a culture that has been led by liberal professors and media. Up is down and down is up.

The only separation of church and state issues are the continueing attacks on the Pledge, the phrase “Merry Christmas”, highschool football game prayers, cities named after Saints, redefinition of marriage, and many more. George Bush is defending these long standing principles. The only areas that the President has applied his Christian principles in our society involve pushing for more abstinence based s@x ed and faith based giving. (What a radical!!)

4. Triggered the collapse of Libya’s chemical and nuclear WMD programs,
5. Contained the proliferation of Pakistan’s covert spread of nuclear weapons technology
6. Killed and captured THOUSANDS of Al Qaeda terrorists.
7. Is driving the Saudi’s to finally crack down on their infestation of terrorists operating out of that country.
I have 9 friends that have served or are still serving in Iraq. ALL of them speak of the incredible progress going on despite the security threats which the US and our coalition allies are slowly but surely defeating. They have all been shocked by the anti-Bush crowd’s smear tactics of the Iraqi operations. The good news is most Americans are not falling for the leftist propaganda.
Micheal Moore’s movie is certainly entertaining, however, that is where the substance stops. He has brilliantly duped the ranks of the ingorant, helpless, scared, and amorals in lying to themselves. Saying that Michael Moore “Hates America” is just childish and silly. I’ve seen all his movies and I agree with about 65% of the content but I would never be so ignorant and close-minded to say he hates America. He obviously loves his country and wants to make it a better place.
Take it from this republican, it’s time to stop these petty fighting and tackle real problems in America. Saying someone hates America because he speaks out against what he thinks is wrong is scary and dangerous. We don’t have to give up our core values, but to make such unintelligent comments hurts us all.

The fact that you refer to your explanation as “simple” pretty much sums it up. The world is a complex place and it is impossible to break down something this important as “simple”.
When you realize the world is not as simple as Christians vs. everyone else your point of view might change. Until then you will not see the truth about the Bush administration. I don’t think Bush is a very good Christian, in fact I think he uses christians like you and me who are true believers for votes. He does not act like a Christian and does not walk the walk.

You are a self proclaimed Christain who simply supports John Kerry, the candidate with one of the most extreme pro-abortion voting records of any US senator in the last 25 years. 44 million of the most innocent, defensless lives snuffed out by people who agree with John Kerry on abortion rights. Bush won’t change the legality of abortion, but his words and actoins prove he wants to open hearts and minds to alternatives such as adoption and moral options such as teenage abstinance.
44 MILLION lives in America taken since legalization over the last 30 years. Over 4000 babies killed every day in the US. Say it over a few times in your head – mind boggling. If the basic right for a person to be alive is so debatable in this country, then all of the other civil rights that the Bush bashers histerically claim are being taken away do not amount to anything for the rest of us.
Since you are a Christian, you are familiar with the sanctity of life as stated in Jeremiah 1:5. But then, it’s obvious that other issues take precedence in your Christian life. Like worshipping Michael Moore for instance.
And of course, since you proclaim yourself a Christian, you do not agree with same-s@x marriage, another Kerry flip-flop issue. I’m sure you are familiar with Gennesis 1:27 and Leviticus 18:22 regarding this subject. But then again, this issue, in combination with abortion, is not enough to change your faithful Christian mind, and therefore support John Kerry.
If you claim to be a Christian, and 4000 dead babies a day agrees with your philosophy, and same-s@x marriage does not strike you as an attack on our country’s basic foundation, then you should vote for John Kerry. If you do not feel that radical loons who have highjacked the Islamic religion are waiting for the opening to murder 4,000,000 Americans, then you must believe that we should treat terrorism as a matter for the courts. Again, John Kerry is your man here again. Believe what you want to about him, but his voting record on protecting this country is more in line with Woodstock.

I got a real kick out of your replies to my last post and to the other “amoral, closed hearted liberals” on this site. I could barely contain myself when Bob said that my mindset will cause “our society to crumble faster than Rome did,” and when you called same-s@x marriage “an attack on our country’s basic foundation.” What the hell do those phrases even mean? Whenever the religious right feels challenged, all they do is regurgitate nonsensical jargon like this. So what if g@ys get married? Stop talking as if the world would end, nothing would happen. You blindly cherish “our country’s basic foundation” and tradition because you’re afraid of change.
In response to your claim that Kerry is “pro-abortion,” there’s a reason why we call it “pro-choice.” No one likes abortion, including John Kerry, but we believe that women should be allowed to choose it as an option. John Kerry has stated that his personal faith should not dictate the lives of all Americans.
It’s scary how the religious right can never challenge the teachings of what is right and wrong in the Bible. They don’t question any of it. It just takes common sense to define what is right and wrong, or “good and evil” by your standards. Something is wrong only when it causes physical or emotional harm to someone else. Many Biblical teachings are sensible in this way, since it is obvious that it is wrong to cheat, steal, lie, kill, etc. But then it goes on to define certain actions and lifestyles as immoral, such as homos@xuality and premarital intercourse, when they are threatening no one. It makes no sense.
I respect people who are pro-life, but it bothers me that they are opposed to abortion just because they believe the Bible says it’s wrong. Why can’t they think for themselves? I have more respect for those who believe abortion is wrong from a non-religious viewpoint, and simply believe that it is wrong to take away the future life of an unborn child. The religious right blindly views everything in the Bible as an absolute good, and labels all its nonbelievers as evil.
You also stated that people shoud vote for John Kerry “if you do not feel that radical loons who have hijacked the Islamic religion are waiting for the opening to murder 4,000,000 Americans.” I completely believe that radical loons are doing this, and that is exactly why I support John Kerry. Republicans always boast about Bush’s success in hunting down terrorists, but they refuse to admit that he could have prevented 9/11 from happening. I almost laughed when Bush gave a recent speech criticizing Kerry for having a “September 10th mentality.” That is exactly what Bush had! His administration dismissed several warnings from the FBI and Richard Clarke, they originally opposed the formation of a Department of Homeland Security, and it was revealed by the 9/11 commission that John Ashcroft told the head of the FBI he “didn’t want to hear anymore about terrorist threats.” They did not hold a single meeting about al-Qaeda prior to 9/11 when the evidence was there. It’s ridiculous to hear Bush say things like “after 9/11, we realized that we had to take threats seriously.” It shouldn’t have taken a disaster like 9/11 for him to realize that, he should have known that all along! He’s our President, for God’s sake!
It’s amazing how ignorant conservatives are on the actions of the Bush administration. They have tried to cover up so many details of 9/11 that it forces one to wonder what they’re so afraid of revealing. After 9/11, they opposed the formation of a 9/11 commission and of any independent organization to investigate it. They allowed as many as 60 people in the country connected to bin Laden to fly out when all the flights in the country were grounded. When members of the Bush administration were asked to testify for the 9/11 commission, Bush tried to use “executive privilege” to avoid it, and only agreed to an hour-long private testimony with Dick Cheney at his side after intense pressure. If Republicans really care about homeland security and fighting terrorism, they should be furious with the Bush administration because they’ve done a horrible job. The media isn’t revealing these facts because either the government isn’t allowing them to or because the media is afraid of looking un-American in a time of war, so they don’t dare disrespect the President. In addition, Richard Clarke was forced to edit nearly half of his book “Against All Enemies” before it was published.
If you think Bush is such a moral guy, here is an interesting fact you should know about: in a campaign speech last year, Bush showed a slideshow with pictures of himself looking under chairs and tables, to which he made jokes that “those weapons of mass destruction have got to be around here somewhere.” I was outraged. He was the one who made the existence of WMDs a serious issue, he’s the one who sent thousands of our troops to risk their lives in Iraq, and now he’s making it out to be a big joke! I was never more disgusted in my life.
If Kerry was in office, or anyone else for that matter, it is very possible that 9/11 could have been prevented, and if it did happen, we’d probably have captured more terrorists, maybe even Osama bin Laden. But Republicans are so blindly devoted to Bush that they’ll never acknowledge the countless mistakes he made before and after 9/11. The incompetence of the Bush administration could be laughable if its consequences weren’t so serious. It made me furious to hear Bush fail to acknowledge a single mistake he made at the second Presidential debate, and to insist that the outside world loves America and that everything is going well in Iraq. This is possibly the most critical election in American history, and we cannot continue on the abysmal path we’ve taken for the past four years. Bush has to go.
Oh, but I forgot, Bush is a devoted Christian, so I guess I’m wrong then. What do I know, I’m just an “amoral closed hearted liberal?”

Here is why abortion is wrong – go to “www.abortionismurder.org” and download the video called “The Hard Truth”. Watch it without even turning on your speakers. Then, come back to this message board and restate your position on abortion. I hope all human beings find this morally wrong regardless of their religious beliefs. To recap, if the basic right for a human to be born is in such a state of debate, then all the other civil and human rights which we entitled to amount to very little.
Maybe we can shift our values in this country to at least reduce the number of abortions from ~3000 to 2500 per day by better emphasizing other options such as foster care adoptions.
When I say that I am praying for people who live in darkness, I am not trying to be cynical. I apologize if this was perceived as flippant. I sincerely “pray” for people whose hearts are closed to wanting to know the true teachings of Jesus Christ.
As for the other topics in your post, they appeared to be derived from political TV ads which are generally tools of half truths and deception that both parties are guilty of pumping out. I try to draw draw my own conclusions by researching across a base of varied and reliable sources.
Note that all of MM’s Biblical reference are from the Old Testament. What does CHRIST say about gay marraige, about abortion, about tax cuts, about WMDs, or homeland security? Virtually nothing. Christ’s message is simple–LOVE. Love God, love your neighbor (i.e. everybody–Christians, Muslims, abortionists, liberals, libertarians, conservatives, FOX News hosts with weird phone habits–everybody). And his other big issue? Don’t judge others. Think about it my fellow Christians–whom does Christ condemn? The adulterous woman? Nope. The two robbers beside him when he is crucified? Nope. The homeless, the insane, foreigners (i.e., Greeks and Samaritans)? NO. The hypocrites, the rich, the rulers, the leaders who put aside compassion in favor of selfish desires.
Those of us who profess to follow Christ need to be more like him. Visit and comfort the sick, the imprisoned, the least of us. Show them compassion.
Let’s really think about what Christ would do.
I strongly suspect he wouldn’t spend a lot of time online slamming others for not supporting the outlawing of abortion or the legalization of gay marriage.

You make some good points, but you take away some of God’s attributes in your statement.
First, Jesus Christ IS God. He said that He did not come to abolish the law, but to FULFILL it. Sin is always sin in God’s book. That never changes.
He did not condemn the adulterous woman, but note what He said to her as she left. “Go and sin no more”.
God is the Creator of life and He is the only one who has the legitimate power to take it away. God created man and woman to have relations within the confines of marriage. He hates those who pervert and twist His original intent.
Does he love abortionists? Absolutely! Does He love liars, cheaters, murderers and thieves? Certainly, but He HATE the sin they commit. He knows it destroys the person perpetrating the sin, as well as others around that person.
We must stand for what is right and true, regardless of popular opinion.
