Your daughter will most likely go through a phase in her life where she will want to enjoy pretend play and lots of frilly items to play dress-up with. Beginning with the bed, which can be the focal point of the room, you can purchase some toile, which is very inexpensive by the yard, in the main choice of color for the bedroom and use a staple gun to secure it to the wall and let it drape in behind her bed. If you wanted you could also make a “mock” canopy bed by measuring the height from floor to ceiling and put in ceiling hooks at each of the four corners of the bed. Cut your toile into four equal lengths (making sure they go all the way to the floor). Take each strip and gather the edges of one end, running a quick stitch through them to hold it closed. Tie the gathered end onto a large gold ring (which you can buy in the craft section), hook the rings onto the ceiling hooks and allow the toile to drape. Voila! A pretty canopy bed fit for a princess.
