Taking Care Of An Obese Family Member
Obesity is a growing problem in United States, and the health risks that come with it are real and very devastating, not just for the obese individual, but also to the family that cares for him/her.
Many of us know someone obese, and if you ever find yourself in a situation of caring for an obese friend, family member, or relative, then you know you will have a hard time, as it can really be a challenge and you will definitely going to make a log of adjustments in their lifestyle and your own lifestyle as well.
First Step
Drive him to the doctor. Doctors have the best advice and they know what is the best for their patients. They can also give tips for the caretaker and on how to deal with the patient properly
Second Step
Slowly, wean off the fatty foods from their diet. This may be hard at first, but its benefits will pay off in the long run.
Third Step
Introduce the patient to healthier options, such as homemade sandwiches that uses lean meat (turkey or chicken breast) with a lot of greens. Also, rather than giving them sodas, give them fresh fruit juice.
Fourth Step
Start introducing salads, and healthy soups in their diet.
Fifth Step
When they feel comfortable eating healthy food, take off processed foods, especially processed meats from their diet and replace it with real whole foods and healthy options such as white mean from chicken, fish and turkey.
Sixth Step
Encourage exercise. Start by asking the patient to walk 30 minutes a day first thing in the morning, before breakfast, Then gradually increase the duration and intensity of the physical activity.
