The Cichlidroom Companion
In Africa’s Rift valley, a large body of water called Lake Malawi lies undisturbed, as it has for eons. This lake s home to literally thousands of fish species found nowhere else in the world. May of these species are cichlids, the world’s most popular aquarium fish.
In fact, Lake Malawi cichlids are prized and sought after by aquarists all over the world. They are stunningly beautiful, they are intelligent, and many will happily reproduce within the confines of glass walls.
Today’s FamilyFirst site is The Cichlidroom Companion, long one of my personal favorite sites. The webmaster, Juan Miguel Artigas Azas, has helped me identify many of the species of Malawis that live in my own aquarium.
The site offers hundreds of detailed photos of these beautiful fish. They are there for your entertainment, to be sure, but are also very valuable assets to cichlid collectors in their sometimes difficult chore of identifying which of the thousands of species that they actually have.
There’s fun stuff here, too. For instance, you can download wallpapers of gorgeous cichlids that will make your desktop something far out of the ordinary. I have just installed the picture of Aulonocara gertrudae which looks nearly identical to another Aulonocara species that I own (and who rules my 55 gallon tank!).
