The Day of the Black Blizzard

Picture, if you will, the sky suddenly going dark in the middle of the day. It was around 85 degrees, but not is suddenly only 50. The wind is blowing, and is very mysterious and spooky. No, this isn’t a scene from “The Wizard of Oz”. It is a true description of what happened in the Midwest of the United States during the 1930’s depression. It is also the Family Site of the Day.

The Discovery Channel continuously brings the best in our past to the television set in a way that is both entertaining and educational. This site today talks about the dust storms of the mid-1930’s, which our parents, grandparents, and great-grandparents will remember, I am sure. The Dust Bowl that is described here is not a postseason football game, but a weather phenomenon that happened because of a set of circumstances, some human caused, some by an act of God. Rather than describe it here, I recommend visiting the site. They do a better job of getting it across than I do.

Sites like this show how the Internet continues to evolve in the ability to educate the people who use it. It is definitely the wave of the future in our educational systems.
