The Defending World Champion New York Yankees

Here it is, one of the best times of the baseball season. The pennant races are heating up, records that might be broken this year are starting to be looked at, and it’s time to head for the old ballpark, grab a hot dog, cold soda, and some hot roasted peanuts. Which is exactly what your Family Site of the Day editor is doing today. The defending World Champion New York Yankees are playing only 180 miles away. Their series this weekend against the hottest team so far this year, the Seattle Mariners. I asked my daughter, who will be going to the game with me, which team should I feature for the FamSite today. Since she had her Derek Jeter t-shirt on, and the Yankee cap on her head was facing forward for a change, she didn’t have to think too long.

Today we look at the team she decided on, the New York Yankees, defending World Champions, an organization steeped in baseball tradition. Their legacy stretches back over 70 years to a player named Babe Ruth and a batting line-up called Murder’s Row. Gherig, Larson, Mantle, Maris, Berra, Howard, Ford, the list goes on and on.
